Anime fighting games have always been welcomed by both anime fans and gamers alike. Most of these games offer an anime styled gameplay with awesome battle mechanics.
And the fun part about these fighting games is to be able to play it with a gaming buddy! With that in mind I’ve made a listing of some of the best multiplayer anime fighting games ever to be release till date.
Ultimate Muscle Legends vs New Generation
This is one of a kind wrestling anime game! As a mater of fact, this is the only anime game that focuses on wrestling as far as I know.
This game features all the main characters from the anime, Ultimate muscle, which follows Kid muscle in his intergalactic wrestling matches in order to protect the world from the villains.
It has both local and online multiplayer modes.
Platform – Nintendo Wii
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is a sequel to the fighting game, Persona 4 Arena. This game features both the characters from Persona 3 and Persona 4.
Like in the previous edition, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax has a variety of special moves, combos, and Persona abilities. In addition, there is also the ability to choose “Shadow Types” for most of the game characters. These Shadow versions differ by being largely skill-based variants of their counterparts, employing a high-risk high-reward play style thanks to reduced normal attack damage and an altered move set with lacking defensive options.
It has both local and online multiplayer modes.
Platforms – Arcade, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventures All star Battle
Jojo’s Bizarre Aventure All-Star Battle features over 40 characters from part 1 to part 8. This is currently the best JoJo fighting game to be globally available.
This game has made the one thing which is truly unique to JoJo into a game feature – the Style. Yes, there is a “style” button which allows the player to use Ripple, Vampirism, Mode, Stand, Mounted, and Baoh Armed Phenomenon.
It has both local and online multiplayer modes.
Platform – PlayStation 3
Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2
This is a 2.5D side scrolling fighting game. Guilty Gear is a popular fighting game franchise that has had several amazing games over the past decade.
Among all those, Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 is the best (in my opinion.)
This game has interesting characters; from vampires to giant robots to demons, you name it, they’ve got it!
The battle mechanism is intense and fast paced with several combos and special attacks.
It has both local and online multiplayer modes.
Platforms -Arcade, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Microsoft Windows
Dragon BallZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3
There are several Dragon BallZ games, but however this one, despite being relatively old (2007), is still considered one of the best anime fighting games ever.
DBZ Budokai tenkaichi 3 features over 98 characters and their transformations. It follows the same mechanism as it’s prequels.
It has both local and online multiplayer modes, however the online mode is so broken that we can consider it non-existent.
Platforms – PlayStation 2, Wii, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
My Hero Academia One’s Justice
My Hero Academia is one of the most popular Shounen anime of this decade. One’s Justice has almost all of the main characters from the anime, and the story mode follows the same events that transpired in the anime.
It has amazing battle mechanism. Each characters has 2 special (quirk) move and 1 ultra move.
This game is also getting a sequel called, One’s Justice 2 which has been announced this year.
It has both local and online multiplayer modes.
Platforms – PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows
Jump Force
This game had the biggest hype among all the games in this listing. However it didn’t quiet live up to it’s expectations. Nonetheless, the anime crossover fighting concept in itself is a very brilliant idea. Not to mention the amazing 3D graphics and the cool fighting skills and special moves!
It has the characters from most of the famous anime like, One piece, Naruto, Hxh, DBZ, etc.
This game is still getting updates and new characters, so we can expect this game to have most of the shounen anime characters in the future!
It has both local and online multiplayer modes.
Platforms – PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows
BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle
BlazeBlue: Cross Tag Battle is a 2D crossover fighting game that features characters from Persona 4 Arena, BalzeBlue, Under Night In-Birth and RWBY franchises.
BBCTB has a total of 40 characters (including DLC) and is said to get more new characters in the Season 2 DLC.
It has only online multiplayer mode.
Platforms – PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Microsoft Windows
The King of Fighters XIII
I don’t think I’d even have to talk about this game. The King of Fighters franchise has been popular since the 90’s and is still getting new games with awesome improvements.
The King Of Fighters XIII boasts game mechanics such as the Guard Attack, the Critical Counter, the Clash System, as well as the dynamic, zooming camera.
The game is set after the events from The King of Fighters XI and is also the conclusion of Ash Crimson‘s story arc, which started in The King of Fighters 2003.
It has both local and online multiplayer modes.
Platforms – PlayStation 3, Android, Xbox 360, iOS
Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4
Naruto is probably the anime next to Dragon Ball series in terms of popularity. Considering how the anime was a huge success, it is only normal for the series to have few game adaptations.
Among all the Naruto fighting games, Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 is the best and the most recent one.
It has over 100 characters and the player can switch between 3 characters in a fight.
An enhanced version of the game, titled Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 Road to Boruto, was released in February 2017.
It has both local and online multiplayer modes.
Platforms – PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows
Dragon Ball FighterZ
It’s no miracle that another Dragon Ballz is present in the listing, considering how almost 50% of the anime fighting games are based on the Dragon Ball series. If you’ve seen the video, then I suppose, I don’t even have to explain why this game is the best of the best among all the other anime fighting games.
Dragon Ball FighterZ has an amazing graphics, gameplay, sound effects, etc. This game is perfection itself!
It has both local and online multiplayer modes.
Platforms -Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch
