The Rising Of The Shield Hero
The Rising Of The Shield Hero is an isekai anime, where the main character gets transported into another world in order to save it from destruction.
However, the main protagonist, Naofumi, only gets a shield as a weapon and is looked down upon by the other heroes who were summoned in a similar way.
As if that was not enough, the King and his daughter of the kingdom in the other world betray him and frame him for crimes he didn’t commit. He soon becomes the most hated man in the entire country.
Seeing the harsh reality of the world, he snaps. His personality changes. He decides to survive no matter what and to return to his own world. Thus his adventures as the shield hero begins.

8. Absolute Duo
Absolute Duo is a high school anime where the students possesses some power called “Blazers” – the art of materializing their soul into weapons.
Each student is required to partner with another, in the hopes that one day, the pair can attain the power of the Absolute Duo.
This anime is probably the farthest from the rising of the shield hero in terms of the setting or the plot, however there’s one common point. The fighting style of the protagonists.
Both the main characters use their shields to fight. Both mc has a female counter part to act as their sword, while they act as the shield of the party.
7. Death March To The Parallel World Rhapsody
Death March is your average isekai anime. Overpowered protagonist, harem of girls, lameass villains, main character too nice to the point it is dull and awesome settings.
A game programmer in his 30’s somehow ends up in a fantasy RPG game. Despite being only level 1 at the beginning, he becomes the world’s strongest in a matter of minutes.
He had an insane level up after he used a devastatingly strong spell that wiped out an entire army of lizardmen. He then sets out to explore the magical world.
If you enjoyed the part where Naofumi was adventuring as a merchant and creating new items in The Rising of The Shield Hero, then you’ll like this show as it shares a very similar concept.
This anime happens in a similar setting to The Rising of The Shield hero. Both of them are fantasy-medieval time anime.
6. Re: Zero – Starting Life In Another World
Re:zero is one of the best isekai anime ever. After getting out of a grocery store, Subaru finds himself in a magical another world. But unlike any other isekai anime, he has no powers at all. He is the weakest of all.
However he finds himself in the middle of trouble all the time and gets himself killed over and over again.
Thanks to the White witch’s curse he revives again at some point in the past, but ofcourse, the trauma of being killed over and over again gets to him.
Can he overcome that trauma and somehow find a way to save the world from the impending doom?
Both are Isekai anime where the main characters have to go through a lot of trial and tribulation in order to get things done.
They both started off powerless, but later on they learned how to harness their powers and became the greatest reason for the survival of the kingdoms they were protecting.
Suffering and more suffering! Both anime has a lot of suffering in stock for the poor main protagonists.
5. Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?
Danmachi is another dungeon crawling anime where the Gods have come to Earth and started living among humans, ruling over them.
The adventurers, the brave dungeon explorers, with the blessing of their affiliated Gods, venture deep into the dungeons and fight dangerous monsters in order to discovering new areas and treasures.
One such adventurer, Bell Cranel, was stuck in a dungeon and was about to die. But fortunately, the ‘sword princess’ Ais Wallenstein came to his rescue. The very moment Bell saw her, he fell in love with her.
In order to become as strong as her, he starts rigorous training and starts chasing after with all his might. However his fast progression draws the attention of all the other Gods and causes him a lot of troubles.
This anime is similar to The rising of the shield hero in terms of the main characters starting off as a weak character. They were looked down upon by everyone. But through hard work, they started leveling up and people began acknowledging them.
4. That Time I Got Reincarnated As a Slime
This anime is like a fun and light version of Overlord. A man who died in the real world got reincarnated as a Slime in another magical world. He somehow retained his past memories, and figured he was a Slime.
He started to use it’s power to engulf everything and discovered that he could gain the powers of anything that he devours.
Later on, after becoming a super powerful Slime, he rescues a Goblin village from danger and starts building an empire for the monsters.
Similar to Naofumi’s shield in the rising of the shield hero, our cute slime-san, Rimuru can devour monsters and inherit their powers.
Rimuru helps the local monsters to establish their own city, just like how Naofumi did with the demi-human race.
Both anime have very similar enemy invasion and battles.
3. The Legend Of The Legendary Heroes
‘Alpha Stigma’ are people who are hated by everyone because of their insane magical powers. They are only seen as an object of destruction.
One such Alpha Stigma bearer, Ryner Lute, wants to save the kingdom from war by finding the relics of the Legendary Heroes.
Thus he adventures with his companion, Eris, to find and retrieve these ancient artifacts and in the process, uncovers the truth behind his cursed (Alpha Stigma) eyes.
The protagonist of both the anime were hated for being what they were. Naofumi was hated for being the shield hero. Ryner is hated for being an Alpha Stigma. Regardless, they fought to protect the people who despised them.
Similar to how Naofumi can enter rage mode, Ryner has a berserk mode where he loses all control. In both cases, the only ones who can stop them in that state are their closest companions.
2. Rokka no Yuusha
Rokka no Yuusha is one of the most amazing anime that you could find which is similar to The rising of the shield hero in term of its plot.
Six heroes were chosen to fight off the Demon God, but Alder Mayer, the self-proclaimed “strongest man in the world” and one the six heroes, was framed for betraying the heroes.
Now he has to survive the attacks of the other heroes and somehow prove his innocence and find the true traitor.
This anime starts heating up only after the first 4 or 5 episodes or so. If you can wait that long, it is non-stop thrill and action after that!
Did you like the part where Naofumi was betrayed and framed for the crimes he didn’t commit? Did you enjoy seeing him suffer and struggle to escape his ‘once companions’ and prove himself innocent? If you did, Rokka no Yuusha has each of those features for you to witness all over again.
1. Arifureta: From Commonplace To The World’s Strongest
You might be wondering what this anime is doing at the #1 position. People said it was crap, right? But guess what, it actually has a decent story. People only hate it either because the animation is kind of bad. Or it might be because they’re just too dimwitted to understand the first episode (It goes in the reverse direction, you see. From present, to past to a farther point in the past.) Or maybe they have some other reason. Who cares?
If you can get past that first episode, it actually gets better.
I have to admit that it doesn’t have a great animation or sound effects, but I’m the kind of person that watches anime for the story. So it was a treat to me. I digged it!
Anyways, the reason why this anime is on the top of the list is because of the personalities of the main characters. How they were naive at the beginning, and changed completely right after the very first episode.
Arifureta is a dungeon crawler anime where the mc, was summoned to another world to save it from despair.
However he was betrayed by one of his party members. He was let to fall down into a deeper level of the dungeon and no one came to rescue him.
He had to survive all alone in the harsh high-level dungeon by eating monsters.
Like in the rising of the shield hero, Hajime is betrayed by one of his comrades and literally goes through hell. His personality was completely swapped and became a badass who does’t trust people anymore.
Hajime can also devour monsters and gain their powers just like Naofumi’s shield.
Similar to Naofumi’s party, Hajime’s party is also comprised of mostly non-human beings whom he absolutely trusts.
