Fans of high-stakes magical academy action can officially get excited: Ray White is locking in his return.
While the first season back in 2023 was animated by Studio Cloud Hearts, production has officially been transferred to Zero-G (Grand Blue Dreaming, The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague) for the sequel.
Season 2 Release Date Confirmed
A second season of The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule the World (Hyouken no Majutsushi ga Sekai wo Suberu II) is officially scheduled to premiere this Fall (October 2026).
Fan Backlash: Controversy Over the New Art Style

However, the studio transition has already sparked a wave of worry through the community.
Following the release of the Season 2 teaser visual, fans have taken to social media platforms to voice their heavy concerns about a drastic change in art style. Many believe it has noticeably changed for the worse.
Longtime viewers have expressed disappointment that the new, slimmer aesthetic undermines the show’s iconic muscle-flexing comedy, with some joking that the canonically ripped Ray White has suddenly been transformed into a “malnourished twink.”
Core Creative Staff Locked In
Despite the studio shake-up, a significant portion of the creative team behind the first season is returning to help maintain narrative continuity.
Masahiro Takata is wearing multiple hats yet again. He will serve as the Director, Sound Director, and Scriptwriter, while also overseeing Series Composition.
Having a single creative lead direct the overarching narrative flow and the sound design gave the first season its highly distinct, slightly chaotic but incredibly earnest energy.
Takahito Oonishi and Tomoko Shinozuka join Takata on scriptwriting duties to map out the next major arcs of the light novel.
Additionally, while Riko Korie remains attached as the original light novel character designer, the actual anime character design for Season 2 is being handled by Mariko Kawamoto, which explains the visual shift that has fans on edge.
What to Expect in Season 2
When we last left Ray White, the hyper-powerful but deeply traumatized “Iceblade Sorcerer,” he had successfully navigated the dangerous elite politics of Arnold Academy, defended his friends from underground terrorist factions, and accepted his dual life as both an ordinary student and a legendary military weapon.
Season 2 is expected to dive deeper into:
- The Overlord Arc & Military Lore: Exploring the wider fallout of the Far East War and the mysterious past that continues to haunt Ray.
- Advanced Magic Competitions: Escalating academy rivalries with higher-stakes magical duels.
- Ray’s Secret Work: More covert ops alongside his eccentric military superior, Lydia Ainsworth.
