Gakusen Toshi Asterisk is a popular anime that has gotten two seasons in a very short period of time. But what about Season 3 of The Asterisk War? The last season ended in 2016, and there has been no word about a sequel.

The Asterisk War is an action anime based on a popular light novel series. Yuu Miyazaki wrote it, and Okiura drew it.
The series first came out in 2012 as a light novel and quickly became a manga in 2013. A-1 Pictures adapted it into an anime, and Season 1 premiered in Japan on October 3, 2015, with 12 episodes.

The Asterisk War Season 3 Release Date & Renewal Status
The Asterisk War Season 3’s renewal status is currently pending. There’s no news of renewal or cancellation, but that’s common for many anime shows.
Anime production takes time, unlike American TV shows. The light novel series it’s based on ended in 2022, but it provides more stories to adapt. This hints at more seasons.
However, it is a trend to adapt only ongoing manga or light novels so that they can boost sales. Other completed series are cancelled most of the time. So, I’m not sure how things are going to play out for Gakusen Toshi Asterisk.
Considering the popularity of the show and the fandom’s demand, I’d say there’s a 50% chance for season 3 to be confirmed.

Is There Enough Source Material For A Sequel?
The Gakusen Toshi Asterisk anime is based on a light novel of the same name. The LN series started on September 25, 2012, and officially ended on June 24, 2022. It has a total of 17 volumes and three more side story volumes.
Seasons 1 and 2 of the anime adapted the story until volume 6 of the light novel. This leaves us with 11 more volumes for future seasons and 3 more for OVAs.
So, there is ample source material for The Asterisk War season 3. It is up to the producers to greenlight the show for a sequel because source material is not a problem for the show.
What Will Happen In The Asterisk War Season 3?
When Earth faces financial stress, the Asterisk War becomes a possibility. After Invertia’s impact battles, Genestella emerged, gaining superpowers.
After Invertia, mega-corporations in charge under the Integrated Enterprise Foundation rule. Ayato Amagiri, a Genestella, enrolls in Seidoukan Academy. He encounters Julis-Alexia von Riessfeld, leading to a duel.
Claudia Enfield resolves their conflict. Ayato and Julis become friends. Ayato investigates his sister’s disappearance and reluctantly participates in Festas.
Ayato and Julis join Festas, showcasing their skills based on the Phoenix Festa. They face challenges, and Ayato’s powers weaken.
The upcoming season will continue the story from volume 7 of the light novel series. We will see some new characters, more rom-com moments, and, of course, ecchi-harem scenes.

Which Studio Will Animate The Next Season?
Season 3 of the Asterisk War will most likely be animated by Studio A1 Pictures. They’ve been responsible for the first and second seasons, so it makes sense they continue the adaptation.
However, it is a well-known fact that the studio didn’t invest much in the series compared to their other works like “Sword Art Online” and “Kaguya Sama.”
We can assume that the studio didn’t want to risk much on an Ecchi-Harem-themed story, as most of these get low ratings. But the fact that they went ahead and released season 2 means they were seeing some positive results.
However, despite having enough source material, they have not renewed the show for over 7 years. This is a bad sign. The only reason they’d do that is when the sequel did not make them enough profit to continue the series.

Where Can I Watch The Asterisk War Season 3?
The previous seasons of Gakusen Toshi Asterisk is available to stream on Crunchyroll, Funimation and Netflix. If we ever get a third season, it will also be updated on the above mentioned platforms.
There is also a chance that new streaming services like HiDive might get the license to host the new season. But at this point, we don’t have any news regarding that.
The last way to watch the newest season of The Asterisk War is on Blu-ray. You can get the Blu-ray box of the third season from the anime’s official website once it releases.
In conclusion, The Asterisk War season 3 has not been officially cancelled yet. There is still a little hope left for a sequel. While the light novel has ended, there is still scope for future seasons.
All we need is the producer’s approval and studio’s willingness to work on the sequel. The author of the series has already experessed interest in having a third season.
In the past, fans had created petition for Asterisk war 3, but it is closed now due to unknown reason. Either way, let’s give them a couple of more year time. Hopefully we’ll have the sequel ready around 2025.
