Brand New Animal, aka BNA, is an action-adventure series by Studio Trigger. Announced in early 2020, the first episode aired in April 2020.
Spanning three months, the final episode aired in June 2020. Subsequently, a follow-up manga and a spin-off light novel were published.
BNA Season 2 Release Date & Status
Brand New Animal, adapted from Asano’s manga, debuted in May 2020. The manga ended with only one volume in September 2022.
Currently, there’s no official renewal for BNA Season 2 from the studios or Netflix. There was no cancellation news either.
However, there is a rumor that a sequel might be coming soon in the upcoming years. There is a good chance that Netflix might renew Brand New Animal because of season one’s popularity.
The studio Trigger’s busy with other projects like Delicious in Dungeon and Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt.
While it doesn’t rule out BNA’s return, we’ll have to wait. Viewer ratings suggest potential for renewal.
If renewed in 2023, expect Season 2 around 2024 or early 2025, given the studio’s tight schedule.
Is There Enough Source Material For A Sequel?
Brand New Animal is a Netflix original anime series. It does not have any source material. However, after the anime finished airing, the series got a manga and light novel adaptation, both of which ended the story at the same point in the anime.
That said, Netflix can easily create a new story arc for BNA season 2, given the potential of the series. There is still a lot of room for new adventures for our furry friends.
The only problem is that Netflix has taken a huge hit in terms of losses in recent years. This means most animated projects are probably shelved, waiting for God knows how long to be resumed.
What Will Happen In BNA Season 2?
Fans often discuss the self-contained nature of Season 1. It ended with Shirou reverting after the battle, essentially ending the story arc. Mayor Rose proposed using Nazuna and Michiru’s blood to cure the infected. Their blood fights Nirvasyl syndrome.
Michiru found a recording of Shirou dealing with a Beastman, suggesting global broadcast. The season finale showed Mayor fostering harmony.
While one arc closed in Season 1, there is potential for more. That fact that there is no source material means the creators can cook up a story anytime, hinting at a potential Brand New Animal Season 2.
Which Studio Will Animate The Next Season?
Studio Trigger animated the first season of Brand New Animal. Fans expect the same studio to continue Season 2 because of its unique animation style. There is no other studio that is perfect for BNA season 2.
That said, changes in producers and studios are common in the anime industry. A famous example is Attack on Titan. The first half was the work of Wit Studio, but the second half was handed off to MAPPA.
At this point in time, we cannot say anything for sure. But there is a good chance that Studio Trigger will continue the anime adaptation.

Where Can I Watch BNA Season 2?
Given that this is a Netflix original series, the only place you can watch it is on Netflix. If we ever get a new season of BNA, it will surely be available to stream on Netflix.
That said, the limited edition Blu-Ray set of BNA is available on Amazon. This indicates that the second season of Brand New Animal will also get a Blu-Ray box, which you can purchase and watch the series offline at your convenience.
