Satsuriku no Tenshi began as a 2015 psychological horror game, later adapted into an anime and manga. Despite a 4+ episode OVA, fans are craving Angels of Death season 2 even after five years. Will it happen?
J.C. Staff, who is best known for One Punch Man and DanMachi, created the Satsuriku no Tenshi anime, and Funimation and Crunchyroll granted licenses to it. It originally aired from July 6 to October 26, 2018.
Because of its unique plot, the anime instantly became a hit among horror anime fans, but it was a miss among critics. With a rating of 6.96 on MyAnimeList, and a popularity rank of #303, Angels of Death’s second season is one of the most anticipated shows in the fandom.

Angels of Death Season 2 Release Date & Status
As of September 6, 2023, J.C. Staff has not renewed the series for a second season. While official announcements are pending, we can speculate.
The anime, based on the game and manga, leaves fans with questions about Rachel’s fate and other unresolved plot points.
The anime’s Blu-ray sales in 2018 were lower than expected, with around 1,000 units sold per volume, compared to the typical 4,000 units. In contrast, Banana Fish, released at the same time, sold 7,944 units.
Angels of Death ranked 303rd on MyAnimeList’s popularity list, a good sign for a renewal. It also ranked 72nd at the Tokyo Anime Award Festival 2019.
Google search data indicates ongoing interest, and the popularity of the game is a financial positive.
The official Twitter account, “strk_tenshi,” has around 110k followers. All of this suggests that there is still hope for a new season.
Is There Enough Source Material For A Sequel?
The Angels of Death anime differs from the manga and game. The manga delves deeper into killers’ backgrounds, but the anime only glances through them.
Zack is older in manga and games but younger in anime. On the other hand, Rachel remains 13, but the age gap difference was actually a unique aspect of the story.
Manga concluded in 2020, with most adapted into the anime.
However, a prequel manga, “Angels of Death Episode.0,” began publishing in March 2017, and it is still going on with 7 volumes so far.
So, the anime has potential for a second season or prequel.
What Will Happen In Angels of Death Season 2?
The story follows 13-year-old Rachel Gardner, who wakes up in a mysterious basement without her memory.
She discovers it’s a deadly game and forms an uneasy alliance with Zack to survive.
Despite Zack’s warning, Rachel chooses to escape with him. They face horrors but succeed. Zack fulfills his promise to Rachel, ending the story.
However, given that there is a prequel manga going on, we can expect the next season of Angels of Death to be about the main character’s life before the story of the first season.
Which Studio Will Animate The Next Season?
J.C.Staff is a reputable Japanese animation company with thousands of fans. The studio has animated over 400 anime so far, including popular ones like Toradora, Prison School, and Konosuba.
This studio has a history of animating sequels to the shows it originally handled. So, there is a good chance that season 2 of Angels of Death will be the work of J.C. Staff.
That said, nothing is officially confirmed, so we cannot say anything for certain at this point in time.
