The first season of Ahiru no Sora received praise for its unique storytelling and captivating basketball scenes, earning a 7.27 score on MyAnimeList.
However, Season 2 faces hurdles due to conflicts between Takeshi Hinata, the author, and Diomedea, the studio.
This clash is because of the animation quality. Hinata desires a different studio for future adaptation, and resolving these issues is crucial for the anime’s sequel. Until then, the approval for Season 2 is on hold.
Personally, I think a second season might happen soon. While not exactly mainstream, the series is definitely popular. So, the producers would want to continue the story with more sequels.
So, when will Ahiru no Sora season 2 release? The best case scenario would be around 2025. This is considering all the time that takes for the production.
But most often than not, anime sequels only release at least 2 years after the production announcement. So, it might take a year more in such case.
Is There Enough Source Material For A Sequel?
Despite fans’ positive feedback, author Hinata expressed dissatisfaction with the manga’s anime adaptation. Multiple public apologies were issued on social media for pacing issues. Each episode covered three chapters, but alterations to the storyline throughout the 50-episode run did not impact the overall plot.

However, there is one concern. The author has not been publishing newer volumes lately. The last volume was published in 2020. There has been no updates from the author since then.

The second season of Ahiru no Sora will continue with the 19th volume of the manga. Below is a summary of the events of volume 19:
The Kuzuryū High Basketball Club is making a comeback! Mr. Satsuki is back as the advisor, guiding the team toward growth. Sora encounters Nino, a street basketball genius, in a 1-on-1 match.
This volume has a total of 6 chapters which will set the stage for future challenges.
If the sequel follows the same pace and has same number of episodes, it might cover upto volume 36 of the manga.
Which Studio Will Animate The Next Season?
Studio Diomedéa media was responsible for animation season 1 of the anime. However, the author of the manga made it clear he was not satisfied with their work.
So, will Diomedea continue working on season 2? I don’t think so. Unless the author approves production, the studio will not work on the sequel.
At this point, we have no idea what the author has in his mind. Does he plan to ask other studios to continue the series? Or will he leave it to Diomedea since most fans were satisfied with the anime’s quality? We don’t really know.
Either way, let’s hope for the best.

Season 2 of Ahiru no Sora is pending renewal. The author nor the production studio has provided any updates regarding the show’s future. There is enough source material for a sequel. But, the author does not want Studio Diomedea to continue ruining his work.

So, the best option for fans is to pick up the manga. You can start reading from Volume 19 of the manga to continue the story from where the anime left off.
