4 Anime Video Games That Should Exist

The video game world has been pretty good to the anime community. Look up games associated with any popular anime, and there are sure to be good ones. In some cases, as with Pokémon, games even helped make a given anime popular in the first place.

Despite all this, there are also some great would-be video games missing from the anime world. Just for fun, we decided to explore this topic and make a few suggestions. Four in particular stand out as games that would be very popular.

1. Naruto Open World

Anime Martial Arts - Naruto

There are a lot of good Naruto video games out there. Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution is a sprawling and brilliant fighting game. Naurto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 is a more modern version of the same. And some titles — like Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm even flirt with open-world concepts.

As many good Naruto video games as there are though, none reach full, modern, open-world status. Today’s open-world games are massive adventures with seemingly endless areas to explore. They have gorgeous graphics and plentiful side activities. And naturally they attract millions of players when done well. How exactly such a game revolving around Naruto would look would be up to a creative development team. But as one of the most popular animes of all time, Naruto deserves an experience like this.

2. Pokémon Slot Reels

Scaling things down, it would also be fun to see more anime in casino gaming. This is not to say there aren’t any examples. In fact, there is even a decent Dragon Ball slot machine online. But the genre hasn’t been used as well or thoroughly as it could be. And a Pokémon slot makes sense for one particular reason.

That reason is that other popular TV shows from its era have had success in the slot space. Most notably, slot video games based on Friends have recently featured on Foxy Games. And while the two shows aren’t related, they do share audience overlap. Friends ran from 1994 to 2004; Pokémon emerged in 1998. If the idea of a Friends slot is to attract audiences from that era, Pokémon would accomplish a similar goal.

Plus, it would be a ton of fun to see all our favorite Pokémon on a digital slot reel!

3. Dragon Ball Poker

Continuing with the casino genre, it would also be fun to see a poker video game with anime characters. Really, such a game could involve any specific anime. In fact it could also involve original characters designed in anime fashion. But we’ve chosen Dragon Ball simply because it might involve the most widely recognized characters.

The idea here is simply that of an ordinary poker video game. In place of character avatars though, players could embody different Dragon Ball characters. Alternatively, when playing against AI, players could compete against characters. It may all sound silly, but take a look at popular poker apps today. Many involve fun characters and settings, and online casinos are better for it.

4. Cowboy Bebop Narrative Game

This final idea is one we’re borrowing from a fun list at IGN. That list highlighted anime without video games that deserved them. And we couldn’t agree more with putting Cowboy Bebop on such a list.

A timeless, neo-noir space western is simply hard not to love. That’s probably why this anime remains popular more than 20 years after debuting. Despite that popularity though, Cowboy Bebop’s video game history is virtually non-existent. There were releases in Japan in 1998 and 2005, but that’s as far as things ever got. It would be wonderful to see a fresh attempt, and IGN’s idea of a Telltale-like game is spot on. Telltale, for those who may not know, specialized in narrative-driven video games. However, they also had beautiful (and sometimes comic-like) graphics. This seems like the perfect way to go for Cowboy Bebop.

In the end, unfortunately, these are just ideas. However, we shouldn’t dismiss the potential for more fun anime video games in the future.
