JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is one of the very few anime where the main character changes for each season. This is because each new protagonist is the next generation of the previous protagonist. As such, the Joestar family tree in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is an extensive one.
In this article, we will be going over the Joestar family members from each part of the series.
This list will contain the details of the JoJo characters from Part 1, Phantom Blood, to all the till Part 9, JOJOLands. So without further ado, let’s jump into the listing!
JoJo Family Tree in the Main Timeline
The entire JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure series can be split into two timelines: the main timeline and the Steel Ball Run timeline. The main timeline is the one most anime fans are familiar with.
This is where we witness the epic battle between the Joestars and Dio. However, this timeline comes to an end after part 6. The universe gets reset and the entire thing starts over, but things are completely different this time around. This is the Steel Ball Run timeline that most manga fans are familiar with.
In this section, we will be going over the JoJo family tree from the main timeline.
JoJo Part 1 Family Tree
- George Joestar I
- Mary Joestar
- Jonathan Joestar
- Erina Joestar
- Dio Brando
George Joestar I
George is the very first Joestar in the JoJo family tree. He is a rich man who is kind and noble towards all. As an aristocrat, he was also very popular among people and a respected figure.
One fateful night, George misunderstands a situation and ends up adopting Dio Brando, the son of an abusive father.
This act of kindness starts everything that haunts the Joestar bloodline for generations.
However, as a father, Goerge was not very great. Because he keeps admiring and supporting his adopted son Dio, who is actually plotting to kill the Joestars and takeover their riches.
On the other hand, his blood-related son, Jonathan, is often scolded by George.
Mary Joestar
There is not much we know about Mary because she was long dead by the time the story started.
However, it was mentioned that Mary died protecting Jonathan when he was a baby. She saved her son from a falling carriage at the cost of her life.
This indicates that she is a very caring mother. She literally put her baby’s life over hers, which shows just how amazing Mary is.
Jonathan Joestar
Jonathan is the main protagonist of JoJo Part 1. His father often misunderstands him and scolds him for everything. This is mostly thanks to Dio Brando’s mischief. Not only that, Dio overshadows all of Jonathan’s efforts and gains people’s favor.
Only Jonathan knows that Dio is a hostile entity for the family. Later on, when Dio becomes a vampire and starts terrorizing people, Jonathan takes it upon himself to stop him. He learns a mysterious fighting art called “Hamon,” which is the only way to damage the immortal vampire.
However, Jonathan was a true gentleman to the grave. He loved Dio as a brother, no matter what he did, till the very end.
Erina Joestar
Erina studied at the same school as the Joestars. She fell in love with Jonathan, eventually married him, and had a baby with him.
Before their marriage, Dio constantly tried to get to Jonathan by harassing Erina. Regardless, Erina was also a noble girl with a kind attitude.
The sad thing is that her family life with Jonathan was very short-lived. This is because Dio and his goons ambushed Jonathan and Erina. While Jonathan manages to get Erina and the other passengers to safety, he gets trapped in the boat, which soon explodes.
Dio Brando
Dio Brando is mostly known as a menace who destroyed the Joestar family. However, as a child, he had an abusive relationship with his father. This experience led him to believe that he has to forcefully take what he wants, or he will be betrayed.
Because of his childhood trauma, Dio never trusted anyone. As a matter of fact, he saw everyone as his enemy.
One thing led to another, and Dio eventually sought power and became an immortal vampire with insane powers. The only thing that stood in his way was his stepbrother, Jonathan Joestar.

JoJo Part 2 Family Tree
- George Joestar II
- Elizabeth Joestar (Lisa Lisa)
- Joseph Joestar
- Suzi Q Joestar
George Joestar II
George Joestar II is the son of Jonathan and Erina. He was a pilot fighting for the British during the First World War.
However, he got caught up in the mess that Dio left behind and perished trying to save his people. He found out that his commander was one of Dio’s zombies and confronted him.
Sadly, he does not know “Hamon,” which is the most effective way to fight these supernatural creatures. At the end, his wife Lisa Lisa took it on her personal mission to finish off this Dio’s underlings.
Before his death, George II and Lisa Lisa, also known as Elizabeth Joestar, had a son, Joseph Joestar.
Elizabeth Joestar (Lisa Lisa)
Lisa Lisa is the mother of Joseph Joestar, who has mastered Hamon to the point that she stopped aging normally. She looks far younger than she should because of her Hamon technique.
For the majority of her life, she had been missing from Joseph’s life as she had to be away from the family. She had killed a zombie that was posing as a military commander and had murdered her husband.
Since the rest of the world is not aware of supernatural beings like zombies, Lisa would be convicted of murder. This is why she had to erase her existence and be unseen.
Joseph Joestar
Joseph Joestar is the son of George II and Lisa Lisa. He was raised by his grandmother, Erina.
Unlike his father and grandfather, Joseph is not noble. He is a fun and rough man who enjoys life as it comes. He also cares very little about his actions as he pulls a machine gun in a public area and shoots his enemy.
Regardless of his defiant personality, he is one of the smartest in his family. He also ends up learning Hamon from his mother.
Joseph literally saved the world when he faced and defeated the Pillar Men. The pillar men were a group of three ancient beings who resurrected themselves after thousands of years.
Their goal was to attain immortality and become the most powerful being in the world. Clearly, they were far stronger than any human, and Joseph had to outsmart them in order to defeat them.
Suzi Q Joestar
Suzi Q is the woman who falls in love with Joseph and marries him. Originally, she was a servant of Lisa Lisa. When Joseph arrived at her place, he hit on Suzi Q, and they quickly developed feelings for each other.
Suzi Q plays a supportive role in the story, where she tends to Joseph’s wounds after his battle with the Pillar Men. This is the period when they marry each other and surprise their families.
Together, they have a daughter who gets introduced in Part 3 of the series.
JoJo Part 3 Family Tree
- Holy Kujo
- Jotaro Kujo
Holy Kujo
Holy Kujo is the only daughter of Joseph and Suzi Q. She is married to a Japanese man and has a son named Jotaro.
Holy is a caring mother who loves her son more than anyone else. Even though Jotaro acts cold toward her, she knows that he actually loves her.
In JoJo Part 3, Holy develops a stand-related illness, because of which Jotaro and Joseph adventure around the world to defeat Dio.
Jotaro Kujo
Jotaro Kujo is one of the most popular characters in the JoJo family tree. He is the main protagonist of Part 3, Stardust Crusaders.
In order to save his mother, who is suffering from a mysterious illness, he travels around the world.
Dio’s existence had manifested the stand ability, and Jotaro had obtained his own stand called Star Platinum. It is a powerful stand that can stop time and destroy even iron.
Jotaro is the member of the Joestar family who finally puts an end to Dio and his ambition.
Dio
Dio Brando fused with Jonathan’s body at the end of Part 1. After that he spends years in a coffin drowned deep into the ocean. However, the coffin is brought to the land by the ones who found it.
Soon after it is opened, Dio gets unleashed. He has completely become one with Jonathan’s body and now carries the Joestar blood.
He also develops a stand ability, “The World” that gave him the ability to stop time. His goal is to use his stand powers to attain heaven, which will give him the ultimate power.
JoJo Part 4 Family Tree
- Tomoko Higashikata
- Josuke Higashikata
Tomoko Higashikata
Joseph Joestar cheated on his wife, Suzi Q, and had a relationship with a woman far younger than him. She is none other than Tomoko. However, Joseph keeps this a secret and pretty much abandons her.
On the other hand, Tomoko had to raise their child all on her own. But she does not complain about it. She is a strong woman capable of earning a living on her own.
As a matter of fact, she hid the fact that she had a child from Joseph because she knew he was already married.

Josuke Higashikata
Josuke is the illegitimate son of Joseph Joestar. He has a pompadour hairstyle and gets very mad if anybody makes fun of it.
The reason for his unique hairstyle is because a man with a pompadour saved his life when Josuke became ill when he was developing a stand. He changed his hairstyle because he looked up to that mysterious person.
Josuke is a fun person who is mischievous at times. He also hated his father for a while because he felt abandoned. But later on, Josuke manages to put his feelings aside and help his father when he is in danger.
JoJo Part 5 Family Tree
- Giorno Giovanna
Giorno Giovanna
After Dio took over Jonathan’s body in Part 1, he had relationships with all sorts of women from around the world. One of Dio’s sons is Giorno.
The reason he is on the JoJo family tree is that Dio used Jonathan’s body to conceive Girono. This means he carries the Joestar blood too.
Giorno is the main protagonist of JoJo Part 5 and lives in Italy. He teams up with Buccarati and others in order to put an end to a drug lord making Italy miserable.
His stand, “Gold Experience,” is one of the strongest in the entire series. It can revert any damage Giorno takes to 0, and its Requiem form can make enemies stuck in an infinite death loop.
JoJo Part 6 Family Tree
- Jolyne Cujoh
- Green Baby
- Donatello Versus
- Rikiel
- Ungalo
Jolyne Cujoh
Jolyne is none other than the daughter of Jotaro Kujo. Upon getting pierced by the arrow in her pendant, she obtained her stand power.
Jolyne named it “Stone Free”, as she was imprisoned in a stone prison in the middle of Florida. After being framed for murder, she finds out that it was all the doing of one of Dio’s best friends.
Jolyne was used as a pawn to bring Jotaro to the prison, where he was ambushed. While Jotaro was busy saving his daughter, his own stand and memory were stolen.
After that, Jolyne took it upon herself to bring her father’s soul back and stop Enrico Pucci from attaining the powers of heaven.
Green Baby
Green Baby is a mysterious creature that was formed from Dio’s bone. Long before Jotaro killed Dio, leaving no remains, Dio had entrusted one of his bones to Pucci.
He had given it to him so that it could give Pucci the power he needs when the time comes. However, after Dio died, the bone pretty much became useless.
After reading Jotaro’s memory of Dio’s plans, Pucci finally knew how to use the bone to obtain heavenly power. He had to sacrifice the souls of 36 of the worst criminals in order to give birth to the green creature.
The green baby, despite being an infant, had its own stand, which was overpowered on its own. However, Pucci merged with the baby and evolved his stand into something more powerful.
Donatello Versus
Donatello is one of Dio’s sons who had a very unfortunate life. This was because of his stand “Netherworld”, but he did not know about this back then.
However, after meeting Pucci, he finally understood all the bizarre events that had happened in his life. He had sworn to help Pucci attain heaven. This is why he fought against Jolyne and Ermes. But Donatello let greed take over.
He betrayed Pucci and tried to obtain the power for himself, but was killed in cold blood before he could even obtain Jotaro’s memory.
Rikiel
Rikiel is yet another son of Dio who fought against Jolyne in order to support Pucci’s mission.
He had been suffering from a mysterious illness that had caused him to have droppy eyes. It turns out it was the effect of a stand that he never realized he had.
Rikiel’s stand ability allowed him to control mysterious, airborne organisms that caused illness in their target. He used the ability to fight Jolyne and Ermes, but he was defeated thanks to fate.
He made one wrong move, which ended in his defeat. This is when he realized that Jolyne was fated to defeat him so that she could involuntarily help with Pucci’s goals.
Ungalo
Ungalo is the third son of Dio, who had a very powerful stand. His stand, “Bohemian Rhapsody,” gave him the power to turn all fictional characters in the world into reality.
When these fictional characters find a human that likes them, that human will become fiction.
Especially the fate of those humans who became the villains in these fictional stories was really bad.
However, the quick-witted ally of Jolyne, Weather Report, used Ungalo’s own abilities against him. He created his own fictional character that brought all fictional characters back to their own verses. This way, he was able to counter the stand’s ability and defeat him.

JoJo Family Tree in the Steel Ball Run Timeline
‘Steel Ball Run’ is widely regarded by many as the best Jojo part there is. I agree myself since everything from the storyline to the characters is just out of this world.
But despite Araki doing a pretty great job with this part through and through, it’s ‘confusing’, to say the very least.
There’s a lot to take in, and the evergreen Jojo universe only seems to make matters worse, to be honest. In case you’re someone who just picked up ‘Steel Ball Run’, we’d advise running away from this section ASAP.
But if you’re one who’s done with the series, this is the perfect section for you. With that being said, we thought it’d be a great idea to talk about the Joestar family tree today! Steel Ball Run, here we come!
JoJo Part 7 Family Tree
- George Joestar II
- Nicholas Joestar
- Johnny Joestar
- Rina Higashikata
George Joestar II
George Joestar II is the father of Johnny Joestar and Nicholas Joestar. He was famous and rich, previously as a horse racer and now a breeder.
Having a lot of titles and accolades to his name, ‘the Triple Crown’ only serves as the cherry on top. He doesn’t treat his sons equally, however.
Nicholas was always the one he held dearer than anything. Although settling in Danville, Kentucky, he traveled frequently to England.
Being one of the aristocrats, George has the manners and etiquette of a fine gentleman.
He’s even seen educating his sons to become someone like him. George Joestar I also has a change of heart in the latter half of the series.
Nicholas Joestar
Nicholas is the elder brother of Johnny Joestar. Being 5 years older, he treats his brother with love and care.
Nicholas is kind and has that cool, masculine look that the Jojo universe is all about. Nicholas is able to control ‘Black Rose’ like it’s nothing.
Even during his childhood, he cemented himself as a great horse rider. George Joestar I is ‘all about’ Nicholas as well. After his death, the father is just devastated, feeling misery to no end.
He even goes as far as to ask God why he took Nicholas and not Johnny. But despite this behavior, Nicholas always treats Johnny with kindness.
He’s that ‘perfect character’ that the whole universe revolves around!
Johnny Joestar
The main protagonist of Steel Ball Run’ and the seventh Jojo of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Johnny Joestar, is one hell of a protagonist.
Life has been hard on Johnny. First a difficult childhood owing to an abusive father, and then paraplegia.
His horse, “Slow Dancer,” is one of his closest friends. Later on in the series, Johnny becomes not only a spin user but also a stand user.
That happens after he acquires “Tusk,” which is his stand. Johnny Joestar is in the Steel Ball Run in hope of getting his legs back.
He’s resolute and determined for his cause, something that makes him unlock Dark Determination later on in the series.
Rina Higashikata
Rina is the wife of Johnny Joestar and Norisuke Higashikata I. She falls victim to a disease that makes her skin stiff and folded.
But Johnny loves her to no end and takes her to her hometown, Morioh. He then travels to New York to obtain the Saint’s Corpse in order to cure her.
But even though the ailment was treated, the disease passed on to their son, George II. Johnny Joestar finally uses Tusk and takes it upon himself, sacrificing himself for his family.
Later on, Rina is accused of murdering the love of her life, Johnny Joestar. But since the evidence is almost nonexistent, she’s able to walk a free woman.
JoJo Part 8 Family Tree
The following members of the Joestar family are the descedents of the characters from JoJo part 7. Therefore, Joestars like Jonathan and Rina appear in JoJoLion as well.
- Joseph Joestar (JJL)
- Holy Joestar-Kira
- Josefumi Kujo
- Kei Nijimura
- Higashikata Josuke
- Yoshikage Kira
Joseph Joestar (JJL)
Joseph Joestar is the grandson of Johnny Joestar and Rina Higashikata. He’s named after the ‘Phantom Blood, Joseph Joestar’ we know and love.
The Joestar also has a similar stand as the original character. The vines come out, and together, they make the magic happen.
He doesn’t have the same personality as the previous Joseph Joestar, though. He’s kind and compassionate, and he’s startled rather easily.
Holy Joestar-Kira
Holy Joestar-Kira is the daughter of Joseph Joestar and Suzi Q. She’s the wife of Yoshiteru Kira and the mother of Kei Nijimura and Yoshikage Kira.
Holy Joestar-Kira is a world-renowned ophthalmologist. She is an associate professor at T.G. University.
She was born with an unknown mental disorder that makes her mistake people for objects.
As the chapters go by, her disease takes a turn for the worse. But it’s seen that he’s quite kind and compassionate towards her family.
She’s an avid reader and, at one point in time, also recommended ‘The Rose of Versailles’ to Josefumi.
Josefumi Kujo
Josefumi Kujo is the son of Sadafumi Kujo and Kiyomi Kujo. He is an agricultural student at T Academy.
Not much is known about Josefumi Kujo. He exchanged parts of his body with Yoshikage Kira’s corpse to become Higashikata Josuke.
This was made possible because of Equivalent Exchange. Josefumi Kujo is the original wielder of the stand, ‘Soft and Wet’.
Prior to the fusion, the bubbles that ‘Soft and Wet’ produced lacked those star markings.
These markings only become apparent after the fusion with Yoshikage Kira’s corpse. Fun fact: Josefumi is seen first demonstrating his stand’s power to Kira himself.
After the two meet at a Morioh Ramen shop, the pepper lid comes off and too much pepper is spilled into the ramen.
That’s when Josefumi uses his stand ‘Soft and Wet’ to make the ramen completely pepper-free.
Kei Nijimura
Kei Nijimura is eventually revealed to be the daughter of Holy Joestar-Kira and Yoshiteru Kira.
That makes her Yoshikage Kira’s younger sister. Kei Nijimura was Higashikata Josuke’s housekeeper in the past.
But despite being aware of her mother’s illness, Kei took no part in helping Yoshikage steal and keep Locacaca.
Instead, she took on the role of a housemaid and infiltrated the Higashikata household.
This was all done with the key goal of investigating from the shadows. Kei Nijimura is the wielder of the stand, ‘Born This Way’.
The humanoid stand, riding a motorcycle is capable of freezing almost anything.
Higashikata Josuke
Josefumi, after fusion with Yoshikage Kira’s corpse, becomes Higashikata Josuke.
He is the protagonist of Jojolion and different from the Crazy Diamond, Higashikata Josuke, that we know and love.
Higashikata Josuke has extensive retrograde amnesia. As a result, he has no memories prior to his meeting with Yasuho Hirose near the Wall Eyes in Morioh.
Higashikata Josuke is determined to find his lost self, no matter what. He wields the stand, Soft and Wet.
Although there are some alternations here and there because of the equivalent exchange.
Yoshikage Kira
Yoshikage Kira is the son of Holy Joestar Kira. He works as a marine surgeon and is also a stand user.
Of course, his very stand being the infamous bomber, ‘Killer Queen’. Despite having a dark personality and a twisted way of thinking to boot, Yoshikage Kira holds great love for his mother.
His stand, Killer Queen, not only has bombs in its arsenal. The stand’s ability ‘Sheer Heart Attack’ releases several miniature remote-controlled bomb tanks.
After his demise, Josefumi fuses with his corpse using Equivalent Exchange. This gives birth to Higashikata Josuke.
In the process, the stand Killer Queen undergoes alternation, giving a new form to Soft and Wet.
JoJo Part 9 Family Tree
- Jodio Joestar
- Dragona Joestar
Jodio Joestar
Jodio Joestar is the son of Babara Ann Joestar. He is the grandson of Joseph Joestar. Jodio is the elder brother of Dragona Joestar.
The 15-year-old is the user of the stand ‘November Rain’. The stand is a close-range one and fits the 15-year-old brawler perfectly.
It allows him to create small raindrops, which are extremely dense. They are dense to the point that they puncture human flesh, pinning people to the ground.
Jodio Joestar is the protagonist of Part 9: The JOJOLands. I still remember how everyone was looking forward to this new adaptation last year.
Now it’s in serialization, and the chapters are only building hype for the climax that’s yet to come!
Dragona Joestar
Dragon Joestar is the elder brother of Jodio Joestar. He is the son of Babara Ann Joestar and an unnamed man.
Dragona Joestar is the deuteragonist of Part 9: The JOJOLands. He uses the stand ‘Smooth Operators’ and is literally the opposite of Jodio Joestar.
The brothers aren’t alike one bit, no matter what we’re taking into consideration. ‘Smooth Operators’ is a colony stand that takes on the form of robotic humanoids on tank treads.
These humanoids are able to grab and displace anything. No matter what it is, even if the object is supposed to be fixed in place.
So, that’s all for the Steel Ball Run Joestar lineage. Do let us know if we missed a Joestar by any chance.
Any sort of feedback would be highly appreciated. Till then, goodbye, take care, and have a wonderful day! Peace!
