Top 6 Anime That Are Better In Dub

Is anime better in dub or sub? Well, that boils down to personal preference but nine out of 10 times it is better in sub than dub. In most cases, dub just feels out of place and doesn’t seem to fit in well with the animation and this is clearly visible in a lot of anime.

But there are some anime with outstanding dubs that you might even consider them to be better. Today we are going to take a look at the top six anime that are better in dub.

6: 91 Days

Top 6 Animes That Are Better In Dub - 91 days

Are you into gangster movies? If you are, then 91 days is a stellar pick for you. It tells a tale of revenge during prohibition, following Avilio Bruno a.k.a Angelo Lagusa as he infiltrates the gang that murdered his family in order to deliver justice to those who orphaned him. The voice acting is phenomenal in both the sub and dub. But If I were to pick one over the other it would be the dub.

The reason that I picked the dub over the sub was because it felt more natural. Another factor that boils it down for me when choosing dub or sub is the location. If the characters are from japan then I want them to sound Japanese. If the story takes place in Lawless, Illinois (which the story does) then that’s what I want them to sound like.

5: Cowboy Bebop

Top 6 Animes That Are Better In Dub - cowboy bebop

Next on the list, we have Cowboy Bebop, an anime that is more popular in the west than in Japan. Due to that popularity, it feels fitting to watch the show in dub.  Here’s a little description of the show:

Based on the worldwide phenomenon from Sunrise Inc., Cowboy Bebop is the jazz-inspired, genre-bending story of Spike Spiegel, Jet Black, Faye Valentine, and Radical Ed: a ragtag crew of bounty hunters on the run from their pasts as they hunt down the solar system’s most dangerous criminals. They’ll even save the world… for the right price.

4: Dragon Ball Z Kai

Top 6 Animes That Are Better In Dub

This is somewhat controversial when you ask someone whether Dragon Ball Z is a better dub or Dragon Ball Z Kai. DBZ and DBZ Kai are roughly the same show but in Kai, they cut out the majority of the filler so it was shorter and closer to the manga. Personally, I enjoyed the dub for DBZ Kai more. And if you were to watch the anime for the original you might as well read the manga considering the amount of reading you would have to do.  I really don’t think Dragon Ball needs an explanation because almost everyone (even non-anime watchers) have probably heard of it. But here is one anyway.

Dragon Ball Z follows the adventures of the adult Goku who, along with his companions, defends the earth against an assortment of villains ranging from intergalactic space fighters and conquerors to unnaturally powerful androids to near indestructible magical creatures.

3: Spice And Wolf

Spice and Wolf anime

Number four on our list is Spice And Wolf. In the sub, some of the character’s voices just don’t match their animation and that just throws you off. However, in the dub, these mistakes are corrected and the voices of the characters feel much more natural and fit the tone of the show along with the animation and the world setting.

Spice and Wolf’s story revolves around Kraft Lawrence, a 25-year-old traveling merchant who peddles various goods from town to town to make a living in a stylized, fictional world, with a historical setting with European influences.

2: Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood

Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood anime

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is an amazing experience, dub or sub. The story of the show is great and the dub is phenomenal as well. The series follows the story of two alchemist brothers, Edward and Alphonse Elric, who want to restore their bodies after a disastrous failed attempt to bring their mother back to life through alchemy.

Another reason that I chose to put this on the list is because of its setting. The story takes place in the country of Amestris which was inspired by industrial Europe. The voice acting is also phenomenal which makes the decision easier.

1: Death Note

Death note anime dub vs sub

This might be a very controversial opinion but in my eyes, Death Note dub is the superior version of the anime. And I might be a little biased considering it was the first anime that I watched and it was in dub. This anime is a pure masterpiece in any version you watch it. I prefer the dub due to its intense use of dialogue and how some scenes just sounded much better in the dub. Another factor is the amazing voice acting. It was an outstanding performance by the entire cast.

Death Note follows a high school boy named Light Yagami who one day finds a notebook called the ‘Death Note’. Whoever’s name is written in the notebook shall die. Light uses the notebook to kill all criminals and eliminate all evil, and become the god of the new world. Soon an mysterious detective named L catches on to him and they play a dangerous game of cat and mouse.
