Blue Lock is easily the most popular sports anime of recent times. The adrenaline pumping football action and memorable characters left fans eager for another season. But when will Blue Lock season 2 release?
As of December 2023, we do not have a release date for the second season. However, there is good news! There is a new Blue Lock movie announced. I’ll discuss about it in the following sections.

The anime’s first season, spanning October 2022 to March 2023, covered 11 manga volumes. With 24 manga volumes available, anticipating season two is reasonable. Although the release date for season two is uncertain, a spin-off movie, Blue Lock: Episode Nagi, focusing on Seishiro Nagi, is set for spring 2024.
Therefore, the second season might get delayed due to the production team’s focus on the movie. We anticipate a 2025 release.
Blue Lock Season 2 Release Date & Renewal Status
The producers confirmed Blue Lock season 2 in March 2023, revealed via at the end of season 1’s final episode. An anime film, “BLUELOCK: Episode Nagi” was announced at the same time. The film trailer released in November 2023, unveiling an April 19, 2024, release date.

Anime production, notably by Eight Bit Studio, takes time. Previous multi-seasonal anime like That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime had over two years between seasons. Blue Lock Season 1 started development in August 2021 and aired from October 2022 to March 2023. The new Episode Nagi movie is scheduled to come out in April 2024.
Considering these timelines, Blue Lock Season 2 could potentially arrive in the first half of 2025.
Other speculators think it might release as soon as late 2024, but that is simply not possible. The anime’s studio is busy with multiple projects, including Blue Lock’s movie. So, there is no room for the second season in 2024 because of the animation studio’s tight schedule.
Is There Enough Source Material For A Sequel?
The anime series is adapted from the manga of the same name. The Blue Lock manga started publishing on August 1, 2018 and it is still going on in 2023.
With a total of 27 volumes so far, the manga is dominating the global market. In addition to the main manga, the author is also writing a side story manga titled “Episode Nagi.” This book has a total of 3 volumes so far and it is still on going.
The first season of the anime covered 90 chapters of the manga, which is around 11 volumes. So, there is still 16 more chapters left for adaptation.
Therefore, there is more than enough source material for season 2 of Blue Lock.
What Will Happen In Blue Lock Season 2?
Season 1 covered half the manga, hinting Season 2 might adapt volumes 12-23. Expect exciting events: Third Selection, U-20 arc, and a massive international tournament await the players.
In the Season 1 finale, we see the Japanese youth team getting steam rolled by the international players. Blue Lock Season 2 may delve into the aftermath and the intense training matches that follows.
It must be noted that the upcoming movie is not a sequel to the first season. The movie will adapt the same story from Nagi’s perspective. So, the main manga’s continuation will only be in the second season.

Which Studio Will Animate The Next Season?
The animation company behind the masterful first season of Blue Lock was 8bit Studios. They are a fairly popular company with almost two decades of experience.
They have animated a total of 62 anime titles so far, and they have a lot of sequels planned for the upcoming year. This is the studio that was responsible for “That time I got reincarnated as a Slime”, “Infinite Stratos”, and other popular shows.
In 2024, they have already taken on 5 anime projects that will keep them busy the entire year. This includes:
