Slice of life, romance, and action were expertly woven together in the anime’s single epic story. We saw Akihito, the main character, who adores girls who wear glasses. A small girl with glasses named Mirai captured his heart right away.
Despite her sweetness, Mirai is a formidable warrior with the power to control her blood. She destroys the Youmu, monsters that pose a threat to humanity, with this power.
There were no spoilers for season 2 at the end of season 1. Not to mention, the first season’s conclusion left the tale feeling finished. This raised the possibility of a sequel to this fantastic show in the minds of fans.
Beyond the Boundary Season 2: Release Date and Renewal Status:
We don’t yet have an official release date announced as of mid-2023. There is no information available about a sequel airing. While some viewers continue to hold out hope for a Season 2 announcement, the majority of us are aware that Beyond the Boundary will not return. There has been no indication of Kyoukai no Kanata season 2’s production in the ten years since the anime first aired.
However, we got two movies (Beyond the Boundary: I’ll Be Here – Past and Beyond the Boundary: I’ll Be Here – Future) as a sequels in 2015, which you must watch after the first season. The stories of these movies is “anime only”, meaning it is not there in the original light novel. Regardless, it should be a satisfying watch for fans of this anime.
At this point, there is very little to no hope for seeing this endearing story continue into season 2 or season 3. Especially because the anime’s story is completely different from its source material. However, the light novel of the series has also been completed, so you can go ahead and read that.
Beyond the Boundary Season 2: Plot Speculations and Predictions:
Season 2 rumors and predictions have been flying around among fans. Will we learn more about Mirai’s abilities and the puzzles surrounding Akihito’s ancestry? There is a lot of anticipation for exciting new adventures and character growth.
However, the first season of Kyoukai no Kanata strayed away from its source material. During the time when the anime was being aired, the light novel was incomplete. So, after episode 3 of the series the story is mostly different. Therefore, even if a second season was to be released, it will hardly follow the light novel.
Is There Enough Source Material For A Sequel?
This is the weird part about Kyoukai no Kanata anime. The first season did not faithfully follow the light novel series. Because the novel’s first volume was still incomplete, the anime production company had to create their own story. After the anime ended, the light novel also ended with a total of 3 volumes.
In my opinion, the only hope for Beyond the Boundary season 2 is a complete remake of the story which is more faithful to the novel. Or it must be another original story written specifically for the anime’s continuation. Either way, at this point, we do not have enough source material for the series to continue as it is.
Beyond the Boundary Season 2: Production Updates
The production company who worked on Beyond the Boundary is none other than Kyoto Animation. They have been responsible for several famous anime like “A Silent Voice”, “Clannad” and “Violet Evergarden.”
Unfortunately, in 2019, there was an arson attack on the company’s main studio that took the life of 36 people. While they are still making anime in 2023, the number of animes produced per year has drastically dropped.
Coming back to Kyoukai no Kanata, the studio has not released any information about a sequel. The official website of this anime also stopped updating their site years ago.
Fan Expectations and Reception:
Fans have expressed their excitement and wish for the series to continue as they wait impatiently for Season 2. Fans are still anticipating a sequel even if there aren’t many forum and Reddit topics that are being discussed. I am aware of this because roughly 400 individuals a month look for “Beyond the Boundary Season 2” according to Google analytics.
While this might not be a huge number, it still means that the fandom of Kyoukai no Kanata has not died down just yet.
