UQ Holder Season 2 Release Date, Status & More!

Fans eagerly await UQ Holder Season 2, even after a six-year gap since the reboot of the action fantasy anime. In 2017, the Mahou Sensei Negima! series continued with a new title called “UQ Holder”, delighting viewers. Its new art style received praise.

UQ Holder is adapted from Ken Akamatsu’s Mahou Sensei Negima manga. JC Staff produced the anime, premiering on October 3, 2017, and concluding on December 19, 2017, with twelve episodes and three canon OVA episodes.

UQ Holder Season 2 Release Date & Renewal Status

UQ Holder Season 2 Release Date & Renewal Status

Upon UQ Holder Season 1’s release, it garnered mixed feedback due to rushed pacing and omitted episodes. Expectations weren’t met.

However, that was the case only for fans of the manga. Anime only watchers, such as myself, found the anime entertaining. Since we weren’t exactly aware of what we were missing out, the show seemed normal.

Regardless, a good portion of the community is in a love-hate relationship with the series. It has a score of 6.92/10 on MyAnimeList, which is not too bad.

The lack of renewal communication is a concern, yet UQ Holder Season 2 remains officially uncancelled, keeping hopes alive. At the same time, as of August 2023, we have no information on the release date of UQ Holder season 2.

Even if they were to confirm the production by the beginning of 2024, we can only expect to see the sequel in late 2024 or early 2025.

Meanwhile, some fans believe that the anime might get a remake for the third time instead of getting a UQ Holder S2 finale.

Is There Enough Source Material for a Sequel?

Is There Enough Source Material for a Sequel?

The manga started in 2013 and ended on February 9, 2022. It has a total of 28 volumes and 192 chapters. The anime covered 131 chapters from the first 13 volumes. The three-episode OVA covered volumes 14, 16, and 17.

So, only twelve volumes remain, which should be not enough for a 12-episode anime unless they slow down the pacing for the anime adaptation.

At this point, it all depends on JC Staff. They can surely renew the anime with proper pacing and give it a proper finale. But since they failed to satisfy fans with the adaptation of season 1, there is very little chance for the studio to continue adapting the series.

Which Studio Will Animate The Sequel?

The parent story, Negima Remake,” was animated by studio Shaft and Gansis. However, its sequel, “UQ Holder! Mahou Sensei Negima! 2,” was handled by J.C. Staff.

Since the same studio did not handle the sequel, it is hard to tell which studio will animate it. Fans were also very disappointed with J.C. Staff’s adaptation of UQ Holder. So it is possible that the studio will not adapt the final season.

Since we have no official announcements, it is hard to say which studio will take up the task of animating the second season of UQ Holder.

Where Can I Watch UQ Holder Season 2?

Where To Watch UQ Holder Season 2?

Currently, only one streaming platform has the rights to stream UQ Holder and its prequel Negima remake. The streaming patform I’m talking about is HiDIVE. This is a comparably old anime, there are no other legal anime streaming services that offer the show for you to watch.

Since HiDIVE already has the first two installments of the series, we can expect UQ holder season 2 to be updated in their library when it releases.

The only other legal way to watch the series is by buying the Blu-Ray box set from Blu-Ray.com, Amazon or other vendors who sell official Blu-Ray discs of anime episodes.
