Fans eagerly await Death Parade Season 2 following its successful 2015 debut. Will Decim return to deal another hand this year?
Death Parade originated from the 2013 short film “Death Billiards” by Madhouse. Writer and director Yuzuru Tachikawa expanded it as a 12 episode series.
This psychological thriller series uncovers the true selves of the deceased through high-stakes Death Games in a bar.
Co-produced by VAP, DAX Production, and Nippon Television Network, Death Parade streamed on Crunchyroll and Hulu.
Despite the first season’s conclusion in 2015, a renewal for Season 2 hasn’t been confirmed. Will it happen? Or has the sequel been cancelled? Continue reading to find out!

Death Parade Season 2: Release Date & Renewal Status
Currently, there’s no update on Death Parade Season 2, and its release date is unknown. However, Madhouse hasn’t canceled it.
Death Parade, based on Death Billiards, has 12 episodes airing from January to March 2015.
Madhouse, known for hits like Death Note and One Punch Man, announced Season 2 in 2016. However, it’s still in development.
Madhouse may face challenges due to the lack of source material for Season 2. Unlike other series, Death Parade isn’t based on manga.
Speaking of, let’s discuss the source material’s availability in detail.
Is There Enough Source Material For A Sequel?
Death Parade differs from many anime as it’s an original creation without source material like manga or light novels. So, in a way, the source material will not be a problem.
That said, original anime series do not get a second season unless there is a huge demand in Japan. And doing that without a manga or light novel source material is difficult.
Other original series like “Megalo Box” and “Code Geass” managed to get a sequel thanks to their extreme global popularity.
However, Death Parade is not well known, nor does it have a huge fanbase. So, while it might be possible to create a new story, the chances of that happening are less.
What Will Happen In Death Parade Season 2?
Creating Death Parade Season 2 poses a challenge. As I mentioned before, this is an original anime. So it does not have an existing story to adapt.
The original season concluded its storyline. So, there are not a lot of ways to continue the story from where season 1 ended.
Unlike shows with manga or light novels, Death Parade must develop a fresh narrative.
Writer Yuzuri Tachikawa needs to devise an engaging storyline that somehow relates to the previous season.
Here’s what I think might be the plot of a potential sequel:
In Season 2, Decim’s past may be explored. We can expect a focus on Decim’s growth and interactions with Chiyuki. If not, episodes may continue the pattern of Death Games with a new main character.
Similar to JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, each new season could have a fresh start and a different MC.
Either way, it is too soon to tell what might happen when the story is yet to be written.

Which Studio Will Animate The Next Season?
While predicting the studio is tricky, watch out for VAP, DAX Production, Nippon Television Network, and Madhouse for Season 2.
These companies produced hits like Death Note and One Punch Man, proving their anime-making talent.
Since these companies worked on the initial season, there is a good chance that they will come back for the sequel.
That said, it is not unheard of to change studios for sequels. For example, Attack on Titan and One Punch Man both had studio changes despite being popular.
So, all we can do is wait for the official announcement to be sure about the studio that will be responsible for Death Parade season 2.
Where Can I Watch Death Parade Season 2?
Right now, Death Parade Season 1 is available on quite a few streaming platforms. You can stream it on Crunchyroll, Funimation, Netflix, or Shahid, an Arabic streaming service. If region-blocked, you can use a VPN to access it.
Similarly, when the second season of Death Parade releases, we can expect the same platforms to update the new season. After all, they already have the first season. So it makes sense that they release the sequel too.
A blu-ray box of the new episodes will also be released once the season finishes airing. You can buy it from Amazon or eBay and watch the show offline.
In conclusion, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of hope for Death Parade season 2. The first season concluded the story, so there is not a lot of way to continue it.
Besides, neither the writer nor the producers seem to be interested in creating a sequel. So, I think I’ll go ahead and say it. There will not be a second season of Death Parade.
The best we can hope for is either a live action or a rebooted version.
