Darwin’s Game Season 2 Release Date & Status
Currently, there’s no official news on Darwin’s Game Season 2, but it’s beloved globally, so chances are high. Not only that, the final episode of season one hinted a possible contination in another season.
Neither Studio Nexus nor the game creators confirmed a new season. The original release date was spring 2020, but no recent updates.
Netflix first streamed the series in 2020. It’s already been three years since then, but it is not uncommon for a series to not get a sequel for 3-5 years.
If the next season of the anime is confirmed this year, then we can expect it to release in late 2024. That said, it’s only speculative until officially confirmed.
Is There Enough Source Material For A Sequel?
The manga of Darwin’s Game started serialization on December 12, 2012, and it is still ongoing in 2023. As of August 26, 2023, there are a total of 28 volumes of the manga published.
The anime adapted only 30 manga chapters from the first eight volumes, leaving ample material for potential second and third seasons.
The 25th manga volume’s description reveals that over 7 million copies have been sold. On MyAnimeList, Darwin’s Game manga holds a 7.6/10 rating and is ranked #1860 with 44k members. This is a good sign because manga’s popularity is also a factor when it comes to getting a sequel to an anime.
What Will Happen In Darwin’s Game Season 2?
Season one’s finale, “Sunset Ravens,” showcases Kaname’s showdown with the Eight while Shuka battles Wang. Shuka uses wire traps to defeat Wang, who counterattacks with a space attack sigil.
Wang’s teleportation backfires when he encounters Kaname, and he concedes after Shuka’s High Roller move. Despite Wang’s insults, he vanishes, and the game master consults Oboro about Kaname’s ascent.
The episode concludes with the sunset ravens seizing Shibuya, and Kaname beginning a hunting game.
Season 2 will follow the manga’s ninth volume, involving killing creatures for significance points. We’ll see Kaname getting suspicions about the Game’s true nature, while a mysterious statue raises location questions.
Which Studio Will Animate The Next Season?
Nexus is a relatively new Japanese animation studio that has been in the industry since 2012. They have animated only 10 anime, including popular ones like Chivalry of a Failed Knight, The Eminence in Shadow, and Comic Girls.
If the sequel to Witch Craft Works is confirmed, we can expect J.C. Staff to continue the anime adaptation. However, nothing has been officially announced at this point in time.
