The good news is that we are getting an all-new installment of Spice and Wolf in 2024. The producers and animation studio have confirmed the production of “Ookami to Koushinryou: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf“. However, the bad news is that it is not the third season that most people wanted. Instead, the show is getting rebooted. This means the story will start over from the very beginning.
So, if you’ve been waiting for years to see the story continue, you might be disappointed because season 3 has been cancelled. On the other hand, the show will be adapted from the beginning with better animation quality, voiceovers, and BGM.
Spice And Wolf Season 3 Release Date and Status
As I mentioned above, Spice And Wolf Season 3 has been cancelled. The series got a total of two seasons but stopped releasing updates after that. After almost ten years of waiting, we finally have news about a new adaptation of the Spice and Wolf light novel.
This new Spice & Wolf rebooted series, titled “Ookami to Koushinryou: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf,” is set to air sometime in 2024. This anime will start from the beginning of the story once again and cover all the moments that happened in the original seasons one and two.
As of August 2023, we only know the release year, and the exact date and month have not been announced yet.

Is There Enough Source Material For A Sequel?
Technically, yes, there is more than enough source material for Spice And Wolf season 3. However, the producers decided to start the series over instead of continuing it. This comes as a surprise to anime-only watchers because the show has a high rating of 8.22 on MyAnimeList.
However, light novel fans were not satisfied with the adaptation because it skipped a lot of the story. For example, the entire fourth volume of the novel was skipped, and the anime proceeded with the fifth volume in season 2. This is why they decided to start over and make a proper adaptation that is faithful to the source material.
The “Ōkami to Kōshinryō” light novel started releasing on February 10, 2006, and it is still ongoing. In 2023, we will have a total of 24 volumes in the main story of the novel series. The 24th volume, titled “Spring Log VII,” got published on January 7, 2023. It’s English-translated version was released on August 22, 2023.
So, if this new rebooted version becomes a success, we can surely look forward to more seasons in the future because source material will never be a problem.
Which Studio Will Adapt The New Season Of Spice And Wolf?
The first season of the series was the work of Studio Imagin. However, the second season was handed off to Brain’s Base and Marvy Jack Studios, while Imagin produced the season.
Now, in 2024, the new Spice and Wolf series will be handled by Studio Passione, which is a more popular company than the above mentioned ones. So, this is clearly an upgrade.
Studio Passione is usually the main player when it comes to ecchi and harem shows. The studio has also worked on popular titles such as “Interspecies Reviewers”, “High School DxD Hero” and “Harem in the Labyrinth”.
But this time around, they’ve decided to work on the wholesome Spice and Wolf series.
As we can see from the trailer above, the animation quality of this studio is excellent, and hopefully they’ll adapt the series faithfully to the Light Novel too.

Where Can I Watch The New Spice And Wolf Season In 2024?
At this point in time, we have no information on where the show will be available to watch. But given the popularity of the series, I assume it will be available on Crunchyroll, BiliBili, and maybe even Netflix Japan.
That said, we certainly know that the Blu-Ray set of the new Spice And Wolf Season will be released on the official website of the anime. It will also be made available on Amazon, Blu-Ray.com, CD Japan, and other e-commerce websites. So, you can enjoy the series in the comfort of your home or offline if you buy the Blu-ray DVDs.
