Fans are eagerly anticipating Love Flops Season 2, the follow-up to the sci-fi romance anime from 2022. Here’s what we know about the show’s renewal as of September 2023.

Kadokawa Corporation, a renowned light novel publisher, created the original anime, also known as “Renai Flops” in Japanese.

The story follows Ittoki Sakuraba, who discovers he’s the heir to the Iga Ninja clan after an assassination attempt. He joins Ninjutsu Gakuen to uncover his assailant.

Studio Passione created the 12-episode series, which aired from October 12 to December 28, 2022, with decent reviews.

Love Flops Season 2 Release Date & Renewal Status

As of September 2023, there is no news about the Love Flops Season 2 release date or renewal status. However, based on my speculations, I don’t think Renai Flops will return with season 2.

Why? The obvious answer is that the producers will not be profitable if they release a sequel. The first season only got a mediocre rating of 6.71. Normally, this wouldn’t matter if the show was actually popular.

However, Renai Flops falls short in popularity as well. The anime is ranked #1708 on MyAnimeList, which is very low to be approved for renewal.

Not to mention, the Blu-ray and manga sales didn’t exactly skyrocket after the anime’s release. Considering all these factors, it is safe to say that Love Flops season 2 might never happen.

But remember, this is just speculation. Nothing is set in stone yet. The chances of getting a sequel might be low, but not necessarily none. That said, I wouldn’t really keep my hopes up.

Is There Enough Source Material For A Sequel?

Renai Flops is an original anime that is not based on any manga or light novel. This means that if the series is profitable enough, the creators will write a new story for a sequel.

However, as I mentioned before, the anime wasn’t exactly a hit. So, even if there is no source material constraint, getting a sequel story is going to be very difficult.

In the past, there have been several examples where original animes like “To Be Hero” got a sequel because of their profitability. To Be Hero wasn’t really a highly rated show, nor was it a popular one globally. But it is popular in China (as it is a Chinese anime). This is why it got two seasons and an upcoming third season: it makes money.

On the other hand, Love Flops season 2 will most likely be mediocre, just like its prequel. So, we can’t really expect a sequel.

What Will Happen In Love Flops Season 2?

Love Flops Season 1 delves into the dating life of ordinary teenager Asahi Kashiwagi.

Due to a TV fortune prediction, Asahi meets five girls one fateful morning. These girls, however, are not humans but advanced AI, created from the memories of his late friend Ai Izawa.

Asahi navigates romantic confessions and unravels the truth about Ai. The season concludes with Asahi returning from university to find the AI girls back, hinting at further adventures.

However, since this is an original anime, the story for Love Flop season 2 does not exist yet. Only if the series is greenlit for renewal will the creators write a story for the second season.

Which Studio Will Animate The Next Season?

If a sequel gets approved, the animation studio behind Love Flops Season 2 will most likely be Studio Passione. It is the same one responsible for the first season’s stunning visuals.

The team has a strong track record of bringing the story to life with vibrant colors and fluid animation. Fans can look forward to the same high-quality production values that made the first season so visually appealing.
