Almost four years have passed since the fantastic dark fantasy anime “Dorohedoro” debuted, leaving us with just 12 episodes. Netflix owned the entire distribution rights for the series which promised a sequel. On January 9, 2024, Dorohedoro season 2 was confirmed on the anime’s official website. Fans of the anime are wondering when studio MAPPA will release the upcoming season.
While the first season was definitely a good adaptation, fans are anxious given Netflix’s habit of ruining anime adaptations one way or another. But will that be the case for Dorohedoro? Dorohedoro Season 2 Release Date & Status
We just got a latest news on January 9, 2024 that confirmed the production of Dorohedoro Season 2 (source). We estimate that it might be released in late 2025, or early 2026 due to Studio MAPPA’s commitments. Currently, they’re working on multiple shows, delaying the anime’s return.
The studio will be working on other mainstream shows like Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man, further delaying the sequel.
Considering MAPPA’s workload, handing off ‘Dorohedoro Season 2’ to another studio might speed up production. However, since MAPPA is a fan favorite animation company, fans won’t like the series being handed down to any other studio.
Season 1 ended around manga chapter 40, providing ample material for a second season with 24 episodes. So, the sequel’s fate is solely dependent on viewership and demand.
Is There Enough Source Material For A Sequel?
The manga series started serialization on November 30, 2000, and officially ended on September 12, 2018. It has a total of 23 Volumes and over 167 chapters.
MAPPA adapted the first 40 chapters of the manga in season 1. This leaves us with more than 100 chapters left to adapt, which should be enough for another 2 or 3 seasons.
So, there is more than enough source material for the second season of Dorohedoro. It is just a matter of when Netflix and MAPPA will find the time to produce it.
S2 will likely continue the story from chapter 41 of the manga. MAPPA will adapt the story until chapter 80 or so, given that it follows a similar pace as season 1.

What Will Happen In Dorohedoro Season 2?
In the first season, Caiman and Nikaido reconcile post their intense battle. Nikaido, a magic-user, assures their continued friendship despite her deadly time-travel powers. Her choice to live in Hole remains linked to concealing her powers.
Although we don’t exactly know how much of the remaining story will be adapted in upcoming S2, the Central Department Store Arc is expected. This plot unveils events after Nikaido’s devil side surfaces. Caiman continues his quest to find the sorcerer behind his transformation, a moment not distant as per the manga.
News about Dorohedoro season 2 is vague, but the anime’s unique journey remains unforgettable. Anticipate a sequel in 2026, considering the time taken for production, which is about 1-2 years on an average.
Which Studio Will Adapt The New Season?
Almost every anime fan has heard about studio MAPPA. They have been responsible for hit anime series like Attack on Titan, Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man. They are so popular to the point, where it becomes obvious that whatever show they adapt will be successful.
Such a legendary studio animated season 1 of Doroheroro. And living up to the studio’s name, the season got 8.05 on MAL and 8.1 on IMDB.
We can fully expect MAPPA to continue adapting the sequel of this dark fantasy anime series. Because, if they were going to hand off the adaptation to another studio, they would’ve done it already. Instead, they’ve been holding it off for three years, which means they are planning to animate it.
