Since July 2017, Futabasha has been publishing Kurone Kanzaki’s ongoing light novel series “Demon Lord, Retry!”. Eight volumes are currently out, with the latest on November 29, 2021. The ninth volume is set to release on September 29, 2023.

J-Novel Club handles the English version, which has translated all eight volumes.

The anime covers the first two light novel volumes, leaving plenty of source material for potential new seasons. The availability of source material is crucial, but it is not the only factor.

Popularity and Blu-Ray sales are the other two factors to consider. This is also where Maou-sama retry is lacking. While the show has better demand compared to some other series in the genre, it is still very low. The fanbase is small, and the show isn’t as successful as Isekai hits such as Rising of the Shield Hero and Fantasia al chiaro di luna di Tsukimichi.

What Will Happen In Demon Lord Retry Season 2?

Demon Lord, Retry! Season One covered the first two light novel volumes. Season 2 might adapt volumes three and four.

Volume three follows Kunai’s journey to Rookie City; volume four delves into Ono’s summoning mystery and Luna’s lost friend’s fate.

There’s no official word on Season 2, but the plot hints at an ongoing story. Especially since the final episode of the first season ended with a “To Be Continued” statement, there is a good chance that the next couple of volumes will be covered in Demon Lord Retry Season 2.

The studio last animated a show in 2022 and has not worked on any shows in 2023. Another concerning factor is that all of the shows the studio has animated have pretty bad ratings.

Demon Lord Retry is the top rated show that they’ve made, with a rating of 6.55 on MyAnimeList.

Normally, we would expect the same studio to take care of the upcoming season. However, given the poor track record of the studio, it might actually be handed off to a better studio.
