It’s been eleven years since Sankarea Undying Love fans last saw the series, and they’re eager for Sankarea Season 2 even now in 2023. While the situation seems hopeless, is there really a chance for a sequel? I’ve spent my fair share of time analyzing just that, and here are my thoughts on the matter.
Sankarea: Undying Love is a unique Japanese anime adapted from Mitsuru Hattori’s manga. It originally aired in April 2012 with 12 episodes, followed by an OVA in June and two special episodes in November.
The manga the anime was based on ended in 2014, two years after the first season. So, even though they had enough source material, the producers did not greenlight a sequel.
But why, though?
The most commonly agreed-upon answer is that the anime was merely promotional material for the manga. So, the chances of getting Sankarea 2 are little to none.

Sankarea Season 2 Release Date & Renewal Status
Season 1 of ‘Sankarea’ aired from April 6 to June 29, 2012, with a special episode on November 30, 2012.
Desafortunadamente, it’s been almost eleven years with no news of a new season. The “special” episode left fans hanging with no confirmation of a continuation.
As I mentioned before, the reason for this is that the anime was most likely one long ad for the manga. Since the manga was in its final stage at that time, the producers might have thought releasing an anime would surely boost the sales of the manga.
Especially the fact that the first season ended in a cliffhanger makes me think that their motive was to make fans curious enough to buy and read the manga.
Now that the manga has ended, there really is no reason to go and make a sequel.
A new season seems unlikely. If renewed, ‘Sankarea’ Season 2 may arrive in 2025. In the meantime, consider reading the manga for more details.

Mitsuru Hattori, the author of the Sankarea manga, published his work in Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine on December 9, 2009. The manga officially came to an end on September 9, 2014.
It has a total of 11 volumes, of which only 2 were adapted into anime. This is approximately 9 out of 56 chapters.
So, there is more than enough source material for Sakarea season 2 and even further sequels.
If we ever get a second season, the story will continue from Volume 3, Chapter 10 of the manga. However, given that its been more than a decade since the show ended, we’re definitely not going to get a sequel.
What Will Happen In Sankarea Undying Love Season 2?
Chihiro Furuya, a zombie enthusiast since childhood, aims to resurrect his dead cat, Baabu, using a potion. Along the way, he meets Rea Sanka, a rich girl struggling with her life. They bond, and with hydrangea flowers, Chihiro revives Baabu.
Rea, seeking an escape, mistakenly drinks the potion and becomes a zombie after a fatal accident. Chihiro helps her adapt to her new undead life. Despite his dream of a zombie girlfriend coming true, their lives become increasingly peculiar in Sankarea.
Season 2 of Sankarea will start with Chapter 10 of the manga titled “A Woman’s Heart.” As always, there will be a ton of comedy moments mixed with horror and ecchi themes.

Studio Deen is the Japanese animation company that was responsible for season 1 of Sankarea. This studio has years of experience in animation and excels at adapting fantasy-themed stories.
Established in 1975, the studio has created over 300 anime series so far. Some of their popular works include Konosuba, Higurashi, and Horizonte de registro.
Given the expertise of Studio Deen, I would definitely want them to handle season 2, if it were to air. However, there is no information on this just yet.
Since the renewal has not been confirmed, there is obviously no news on which studio will handle the job.
Where Can I Watch Sankarea Undying Love Season 2?
Since it is a fairly old anime, the first season is only available on Crunchyroll y Funimation. So, the possible sequel will also be available on the same platforms.
However, as we have seen with Aula de la Élite, sequels might be made available on more platforms than the prequel. So, always keep an eye out on your favorite streaming service once the renewal has been confirmed.
You can also buy the Blu-ray box sets from the sitio web oficial of the show. Normally, the Blu-ray discs only release after the anime has finished airing, so you might have to wait a while if you’re planning to go with this option.
