Demons and devils are mythological entities with roots in various cultures and religions around the world. It is the same in Japanese culture, and it has been depicted in several anime and manga series over the years. In this article, I’ll list my 20+ favorite anime featuring demons and devils.

Note: I will be excluding isekai anime because literally every isekai anime series has the concept of demons and devils. That is a title for another day. As far as this article is concerned, the anime should not be an isekai story. The demons and devils should either be friends with the MC or they should be evil. Or, of course, the main character should turn into a demon at some point during the story.

In this section, I will be listing down some of the greatest anime series that has demonic creatures and devilish beings in them.

I have ordered the list based on my personal favorite. However, I know that your taste and preference might be different. So, just because a title is lower in the list doesn’t mean it has a lame story.

Radiant is a very underrated shonen anime that features demon like beings that plauge the world.

There are certain people who have gained powers because of contact with them. They are treated badly and are discriminated.

In such a world, our main protagonist, strives to get to the source of the demons and eliminate them all. If he did that, then people won’t have to hate the people who have developed powers because of them.

This is a fun and interesting adventure anime that is full of action, comedy and supernatural encounters.

22/23. Ousama Ranking

Ousama Ranking is a unique anime with controversial character design and animation. However, the story of this anime was so good that it became one of the most appreciated series during the time it aired.

This anime has a demon that plays a central role in the story. Even though, it is not the main focus of the anime, the demon managed to leave a lasting impression on fans.

Ousama Ranking is a story about a deaf boy who is one of the princes of a nation. Because of his disability he was treated badly.

However, he found an unlikely friend who is the last survivor of the shadow clan. The anime follows the adventures of these two.

21/23. Mairimashita Iruma Kun

Let’s start the list off with a comedy anime with a decent amount of action and adventure in it: Mairimashita Iruma kun. This is a story about a boy named Iruma who gets sold off to a devil. His parents only cared about money, so they easily abandoned him.

However, the devil bought him so that he could adopt Iruma as his grandson. Now, Iruma has to attend a demon school where humans are just mythical “food”.

Iruma has to borrow powers from his grandfather using a magic item in order to survive at the school. But the twist starts when he actually becomes a candidate for the next demon lord.

20/23. Demon King Daimao

Demon King Daimao is an anime about a boy who is fated to become the demon king. This is a hilarious ecchi harem anime that features a ton of magical battles and supernatural powers.

The main protagonist, Akuto Sai, is a good-hearted and strong-willed person who wants to use his power for good. Unfortunately, fate seems to have other plans for him as the Demon King.

Through the course of the show, Akuto must grapple with his destiny as well as a variety of enemies who are out to get him.

19/23. Beelzebub

Beelzebub is an anime with demons in it that has a very unique storyline. The main character is a high school boy who ends up babysitting a demon baby.

The baby is to become the next demon lord, and it is his job to take care of him and help him grow.

The entire anime is a bit whacky and has certain plot holes. But overall, it is a decent action-comedy anime series where we get to see demons, vampires and other fantasy creatures.

Black Butler is one of the most popular animes from the mid 2000’s. This anime is very popular for its interesting cast of characters.

The main character is a boy who has made a contract with a demon. With the demon Sebastian acting as his butler, this show follows the duo as they solve a variety of mysteries.

There are quite a few demons and other mythical beings in this anime, which makes it a perfect fit for this list.

Black Butler is a good anime full of mysteries, action, adventure and even a little bit of romance. Over all, this is a great anime that follows the comedic yet exciting adventures of Ciel and Sebastian.

17/23. Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle

Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle is a slice-of-life comedy anime about a princess and a bunch of demons.

One day, the demons kidnap her in order to hold her hostage and extort. But here’s the twist: The princess doesn’t care.

She acts like she owns the demons, and all she wants is a good, comfy sleep. In order to make that happen, she wrecks havoc in the demon castle.

It is very amusing to the kidnappee stress the shit out of their kidnapper just by wanting to sleep! If you’r’e looking to have a good laugh then you should definitely watch how this brave girl deals with the chaotic situation she finds herself in.

16/23. Orient

Orient is an underrated shonen anime where some demonic beings known as “Kishin” has taken over the planet.

The kishin are pretty much demons that consume Earth’s metals to power themselves up. They are huge creatures that comes in various shapes and sizes, each with their own special abilities.

The main character grew up in a town that had completely given up and submitted to the Kishin. They treated Kishin like gods and they send their children to mine minerals to feed them. They villify the people who try to slay the demons and protect humanity.

However, thanks to his friend’s dad, our MC has always known the Kishin were evil. He swore to become a “Bushi”, a group that specializes in killing the Kishin and protecting humanity.

This is a story about how the MC and his friends become a bushi, and the threats they have to deal with.

15/23. Kemono Jihen

Kemono Jihen is an anime full of demons and devils that centers around a young boy named Kabane.

Kabane is a half-human, half-demon boy who is an immortal. He is immune to pain and can regenerate from any fatal damage.

Kabane ends up becoming a “monster investigator,” where his job is to look into mysterious incidents that have been happening in the local area. He has to identify and stop the monsters that cause trouble for the world.

14/23. Devilman Crybaby

Devilman Crybaby is dark anime series with demons and devils in it. The show is about a guy who gets transformed into a demon.

Now, he has to fight off a dude whom he once thought is his friend. Turns out he became the angel that wants to destroy the world.

As they both duke it out, the world hangs in the balance, and the audience is taken on a wild ride of emotions as they grapple with the battle for what is right and wrong.

Devil May Cry is the anime adaptation of the popular video game series of the same name. The main character of this anime is a half-devil who goes around hunting other demonic creatures.

He is a cool and badass person who takes on the challenge of tackling difficult and often dangerous missions with bravado and confidence.

While the anime doesn’t cover the entire story, it shows a glipse into the world of Devil May Cry, giving viewers an insight into its characters and their motivations.

The Promised Neverland might seem like a kids’ show at first glance. But that is far from the truth. This is a gory anime with demons and devils that treat human children as nothing more than food.

In one of their “food” farms, we have our main gang that somehow figures out what is truly going on in their orphanage.

Now, it is up to Emma and her allies to find a way to rescue their fellow orphans, and escape from the demons.

Seven Deadly Sins is one of the most popular anime in the shonen genre. Well, it has been taking a lot of critism because of its animation, but the story is pretty good nonetheless.

This anime is set in a fantasy world with magic, knights, demons and devils. Its protagonists are seven individuals, each embodying one of the Seven Deadly Sins – Pride, Greed, Lust, Envy, Gluttony, Wrath and Sloth.

Seven Deadly Sins is a grand anime that spans for multiple seasons, and follows the journey of its protagonists as they battle to save the Kingdom of Liones from a diabolical army.

10/23. Berserk

When we’re talking about anime with demons and devils, we simply can’t miss Berserk. Berserk is an anime series and manga set in a medieval Europe-inspired fantasy world, with heavy emphasis on dark themes such as violence, cruelty and death.

The anime follows the story of Guts and his adventures as he fights against an antagonistic force known as the God Hand, who are a group of incredibly powerful demonic entities.

While the manga of the series is far better than the anime adaptation in terms of story, character development and visuals, the anime is still a great way to introduce people to Berserk.

So give it a shot if you want to experience an intense, action-packed anime with deep characters and a thrilling story.

D. Gray-man is one of the best anime about demons and devils on the market. The anime has a pretty dark story, and things get quite intense as the story progresses.

The anime is about our main character, Allen Walker, who is an exorcist with a cursed eye that allows him to see the akuma, the demons of his world.

However, he is quite unique. He does exorcisms to save the demons. This is because they are all just human souls that are being tormented to do the bidding of the Millennium Earl, the leader of the akuma.

The story of this anime gets more and more interesting as it progresses and as we learn more about Allen’s past.

Blue Exorcist is one of the few animes that fans think about when talking about anime with demons and devils.

The story of this anime revolves around a young man named Rin Okumura, who discovers that he is the son of Satan and must learn how to use his demonic powers for good.

He encounters several demons that try to destroy his world. Rin has to deal with the demons, and try to protect the world from their evil intentions.

7/23. Dororo

Dororo is a dark fantasy anime set in feudal Japan. The story focuses on the travels of a young orphan thief named Dororo and a samurai who set out to reclaim what was stolen from him.

Dororo is a spunky and energetic kid that hangs around a mysterious samurai. He is a young man who has all his major organs missing. In the place of his limbs, he has got prosthetics fitted with Katana blades.

His goal his to defeat the demons and get back his body parts one by one. The story gets really dark and interesting when his past is revealed.

6/23. Yu Yu Hakusho

Yu Yu Hakusho is a hit shonen anime from the early 1990s. It follows the story of Yusuke Urameshi, a delinquent high school student who dies trying to save a child from an oncoming car.

He has a bad reputation in the neighborhood, so most people think he tried to bully the child and got himself killed. There were only a couple of people who really had faith in him.

Seeing this as a ghost, he got frustrated. This is when he was given a chance to get back to life. Hoewever, there was a catch! He had to become a spirit investigator and had to fight demons and other evil creatures.

5/23. Ushio & Tora

Ushio & Tora is one of my favorite anime series about demons and devils. The story mainly focuses on Yokai, Japanese demons that terrorize Japan.

Our MC, Ushio, ends up unleashing a fierce demon (he later named it “Tora”) in order to save his friends from lesser demons. However, he keeps the unleashed demon in check with the “Beast Spear.”

It is a powerful spear that had sealed the demon for 500 years before Ushio released it. This unlikely pair then embarks on a journey together, forging a strong bond while confronted with dangerous monsters along the way.

This anime is sometimes funny, especially when Ushio and Tora argue with each other and show how different they are.

4/23. High School DxD

Let’s face it. It is far better to have anime with demon waifus, instead of scary monsters. Especially, when it comes to High school DxD, fans adore demon girls.

Our hero, Issei, befriends and falls in love with several beautiful demon girls from the supernatural realm in this ecchi-harem anime series.

However, it is not all about fanservice. This anime also has a decent plot that revolves around Issei and his journey as he battles different enemies.

3/23. Black Clover

Black Clover is an anime about magic, wizards, and devils. The main character of this anime is Asta, a boy who aspires to become the Wizard King.

However, his fate is cruel, as he has no talent for magic. Regardless, he never gives up and trains his body hard, honing his physical strength and agility.

One day, when his life and the life of his childhood friend and rival was at danger, he gets a five clvoered grimoire.

He gets the power to use “anti-magic” that cancels out any magic in the world.

The story progresses as they both survive the fight and enroll as Magic Knights and face several villains.

2/23. Demon Slayer

Demon Slayer is set in a fantasy world similar to Japan’s Taishō period. The story starts when demons attack our MC Tanjiro’s family.

All of his family were dead, except for his sister. His sister, Nezuko, was turned into a demon.

Things happen one after the other, and Tanjiro ends up joining the Demon Slayer Corps, which strives to rid the world of demons, in order to turn his sister back into a human.

This is an epic anime that has become a huge hit in both eastern and western countries, thanks to its amazing plot.

1/23. Chainsaw Man

Chainsaw Man needs no introduction, as it is the most trending topic in the manga and anime community right now.

This is a horror-thriller anime series where our main character becomes a half demon. Our MC, and his pet demon merged together when he was dying. Because of this, he became a hybrid.

After that, he ends up joining the Public Safety Devil Hunters. His job is to slay devils and fiends that cause trouble.

Chainsaw Man is a 10 out of 10 anime that will keep you on the edge of your seat, full of excitement. This anime has epic fight scenes and an intriguing story arc that will leave you hooked and wanting more.
