Which is why, in this article, I will be covering some of the interesting isekai anime series with unique plots and interesting characters.

The animes I’ll be counting down to in this article are all ones I’ve seen and found interesting. They may share a few plot points with some popular isekai series, but I guarantee you that certain elements in these shows are so unique that you’ll be surprised.

13/13. Restaurant to another world

This is a feel-good isekai anime series where the main character is a chef. What’s unique about this anime is that the MC does not go into the other world. Contrarily, he stays put in his restaurant, but the residents of another world come to his shop.

The doors of his restaurant act as a portal that randomly appears at different places in a magical world. From monsters to royal humans, everyone visits his place to have the best meal of their lives.

12/13. Kemono Michi

This anime starts off in a cliched manner. The main character is summoned to another world to deal with the demons. However, the twist is that he actually loves animals and denies their request to slay the demon beasts. Instead, he decides to open a pet shop with the demon beasts, where he can care for them and teach others the importance of loving all creatures.

This is a hilarious anime with tons of lighthearted scenes—a perfect watch for people who want a good mix of comedy in their anime.

11/13. Dungeon Black Company

This is one of the most unique and interesting isekai anime series that I have ever seen. The story is about an ultimate NEET who has achieved great success in his life. But everything comes to an end when he is mysteriously teleported to another world.

Now he has to work as a dungeon worker to meet his basic needs. However, our MC is determined to go back to his high-class, lazy lifestyle, so he plans to start his own company.

10/13. Life With an Ordinary Guy Who Reincarnated Into a Total Fantasy Knockout

Among all the other animes I’ve listed in this article, this one takes the cake for being the most unique and hilarious isekai anime of all time.

In this show, the main characters are two middle-aged dudes who get transported into another world thanks to the goddess of love. What’s more? The goddess turns one of the guys into a cute-looking girl.

The goddess also curses every man to fall for her charms, which leads to a lot of crazy situations as they explore their new world.

9/13. Grimgar of fantasy and ash

This anime is nothing like your typical isekai anime. The series starts with a bunch of kids who have no memory of where they are or who they were.

These guys are actually too weak, and they don’t become overpowered even by the end of the show, unlike the normal isekai anime protagonist.

What makes this isekai anime series stand out is how realistic it is. The characters struggle and make mistakes, which often have big consequences, some even leading to the deaths of some beloved characters.

8/13. Cautious Hero

Cautious Hero is a hit anime from 2019 that made everybody laugh with its hilarious story and cry with its heartbreaking ending.

What makes this a unique and interesting isekai anime series is its main protagonist. The MC, Seiya, is a very cautious man who would rather endure grueling training for hundreds of hours rather than face an opponent who is at the same level as he is.

It is such a treat to watch him go through extreme measures to make sure he always comes out as the winner and devastates his enemies.

7/13. Saga Of Tanya The Evil

The main character of this story is a salaryman who gets reincarnated into another world as a girl.

But unlike any normal Isekai story, he is not there to slay the demon king or save people in that world. He is there because he rejected God, and he is being punished into submission.

The MC has to participate in wars, survive the harsh situation, and fight against God and its plans to make him submit to them.

Re:Zero is easily one of the most popular and interesting isekai anime out there. It is the first anime to introduce the concept of “return by death“, which allows the MC to return to a different point in his past so that he can redo things differently.

However, the anime gets dark and depressing at times as the main character has to endure a lot of mental torture and suffering. Regardless, the show still shines through with its comedy, drama, and plot progression.

Gate is another anime series with an otaku MC. However, in this case, he is also a military officer who saves a lot of people when a mysterious gate unleashes monsters from another world.

Because of this, he is selected to lead a special team into the gate and investigate the other world that is filled with magic.

What makes this anime unique and interesting is that the main character uses guns and tanks to overwhelm the other world dwellers who use swords and magic. It is not something you see in your average isekai anime.

4/13. Mairimashita Iruma Kun

Here’s an anime series that deserves more attention in the Isekai fandom. This is a hilarious anime where the MC’s parents sell him to a devil.

However, to his luck, the devil is only adopting him as his grandson. He gets to live the best life in the demon world, but there is one little twist.

He has to attend a school for demons that think humans are food. Iruma has to keep his identity a secret as he studies at the magic school for demons.

This is one of the most recent Isekai animes on this list. It is about a MC who dies and gets reincarnated as a sword. Yes, you read it right. A sword.

However, he is a sentient being who can think and move around on his own. He slays a ton of monsters and levels up before finding his wielder.

A cat girl who was being abused as a slave found him, and he helped her gain her freedom.

Later, they go on adventures together and get stronger and stronger as they pass through several dungeons and cities.

2/13. No Game No Life

No Game No Life was THE THING back in the days. Fans were going crazy over this show and craved another season.

However, almost a decade later, we still don’t have any news on the next season.

That said, it is still one of the most unique and interesting isekai anime series of all time.

The show is about a genius sibling who are undefeatable in games. Because of their reputation, the God of Games challenge them to a grand game. They are transported into a fantasy world, where they have to use their wits to overcome various circumstances.

1/13. The Faraway Paladin

This anime is unlike any other Isekai story out there. The MC of this show is born in a fantasy world with memories of his previous life.

However, the interesting part is that a bunch of undead raised him. With a skeleton acting as his father, a zombie as his mother, and a ghost as his grandfather, he grows up in an amusing environment.

The story is about our MC traveling through the lands, meeting his first bunch of humans, and eventually becoming a reputed Paladin. But this is where the story truly starts.
