Top 10 Strongest Characters In Avatar The Last Airbender

“Avatar: The Last Airbender” is loved by fans for its exciting battle sequences and well-developed characters. The show’s unique world is filled with people who can control the four classical elements—earth, fire, water, and air. Each element has its own distinct style, and the series showcases some truly powerful benders. So, who are the strongest characters in “Avatar: The Last Airbender”?

With many of these strongest characters in “Avatar: The Last Airbender” appearing in Netflix’s new live-action adaptation, now is the perfect time to revisit the captivating world of this popular anime series.

Nota: We won’t be including any avatars other than Aang. Let’s face it, the avatars would hog the majority of the list if we did that.

10. Suki

Suki

Suki, a Kyoshi Warrior from Kyoshi Island, displayed impressive combat skills using traditional war fans and a katana.

Her leadership inspired her fellow warriors to assist the Avatar in his quest. She also taught Sokka her fighting techniques.

Suki’s quick learning was evident when she piloted a Fire Nation airship without prior training. Though not a bender, her combat prowess and leadership make her a formidable character in Avatar: The Last Airbender.

9. Sokka

Sokka

Sokka, unlike his sister Katara and friend Aang, lacks bending abilities. However, his strategic mind and combat skills make him a strong fighter.

Trained by the Southern Water Tribe, Sokka is proficient with a boomerang and learned swordsmanship from Master Piandao.

His tactical advice is crucial for Team Avatar, proving that his strength lies in his intelligence and versatility in battle.

Despite being powerless, Sokka has proven to be a crucial ally in the majority of the battles, earning him a spot on this list.

8. Zuko

Zuko

Zuko’s firebending skills may not be as impressive as others in his family, but he is still a powerful bender. His character development and redemption arc add depth to his abilities.

Zuko’s proficiency with broadswords complements his firebending, making him a well-rounded fighter. Despite his struggles for validation, Zuko’s growth and skill make him one of the strongest characters in Avatar: The Last Airbender.

The only reason he is far down on the list is his lack of natural talent. Unlike his father, or his sister, he is somewhat mediocre when it comes to fire bending.

7. Katara

Katara

Katara’s determination to master waterbending leads to her becoming a formidable bender. She can manipulate water in various forms—ice, snow, and steam—providing tactical advantages in battle.

What’s more, she is also one of the only characters in the show who can bloodbend, which makes her a deadly opponent.

Katara’s self-taught skills and eventual mastery under Pakku make her a powerful waterbender. Her healing abilities and quick thinking in combat further enhance her strength.

6. Bumi

Bumi

King Bumi of Omashu is one of the strongest earthbenders in the series. Despite his age, Bumi’s physical strength and unique bending techniques, like bending with only his head, make him a formidable opponent.

His genius and patience allow him to single-handedly reclaim his city, showcasing his strategic prowess and bending mastery.

While he might act a little crazy, he always has a plan in his mind, which earns him the sixth position on our list.

5. Toph

Toph

Toph Beifong, a blind earthbender, turns her disability into an advantage, sensing vibrations through the ground.

She invents metalbending, a significant advancement in bending techniques. Toph’s ability to prevent an entire library from sinking into the earth highlights her exceptional power.

Her young age suggests her skills will only improve, making her one of the strongest characters in Avatar: The Last Airbender.

4. Azula

Azula

Azula, Zuko’s sister, is a powerful firebender capable of producing blue flames and generating lightning. Her precision and control, bending with just two fingers, set her apart.

Azula’s cunning and strategic mind allow her to execute complex plans, like the coup of Ba Sing Se.

Her mental decline, however, hinders her strength, but her raw power remains undeniable.

3. Iroh

Iroh

Iroh, a beloved character, combines wisdom and strength. His extensive knowledge of firebending and other nations’ techniques, including lightning generation, makes him one of the strongest benders.

Iroh’s guidance and wisdom are as influential as his bending abilities, contributing significantly to the series’ storyline.

Even his allies feared him in his prime. However, he became more of a pacifist later on in his life. So he never goes all out in a fight with the intent to kill.

2. Fire Lord Ozai

Fire Lord Ozai

Fire Lord Ozai, a terrifying dictator, displays his immense power in the series finale. His firebending skills and strategic mind make him a formidable villain.

Ozai’s plan to conquer the world showcases his ambition and strength, culminating in an epic battle with Aang that highlights his exceptional firebending talent.

As the series’ main villain, I’m sure he deserves the second spot on this list.

1. Avatar Aang

Avatar Aang

Avatar Aang, the series’ protagonist, wields the power of all four elements. He is the most popular character in the show. This is why his merch receives the most love in the Avatar The Last Airbender Store.

His quick learning and unconventional training methods enhance his bending skills. Aang’s most powerful abilities include energybending, which allows him to remove or impart bending, and the Avatar State, drawing on the knowledge and power of previous Avatars.

These abilities make Aang the strongest character in Avatar: The Last Airbender.
